Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. - Toothpaste Tricks + How to Frame a Dead Animal

This is the first and, most likely, the last Pinterest project I will ever participate in that involves a dead animal. For all you animal activists or PETA members, you may want to go ahead and press the little red "x" in the top corner of your screen. For the rest of you, well, don't say I didn't warn you.

By now, you all know I come from a family of hunters
and, to no surprise, I married one, too...
There's nothing sexier than a man in camo and snake boots. Nothing.

Animals hanging on the wall are nothing new to me so when I came across this pin, and realized we had about 6 animals to hang on ours, I instantly knew I'd be recreating it in an effort to make these animals more "decor-like"...if you will. (Just got with it, mmmkay?)
Now if I could only find a way to pull of a tin wall...

Anywho-here's what you'll need, you know...besides a husband who likes to kill any wild animal in his sight:
One dead animal | XL barnwood frame from Hob Lob | hanging doo-hickies + hammer | toothpaste

You may all be wondering what the heck toothpaste has to do with this? Well-call me an overachiever (or don't) because this post actually includes TWO pins! (See? Overachiever.)

Use your toothpaste as a marker on the back of your frame before nailing anything to your walls. Dab a little on the hanger, press against the wall and voila! Now you know where your nails should go!

Flipping genius, right?

Once you know where your nails are going, ask make your husband hang your frame. Trust me...anytime an animal gets hung in our house, Beau is always the first one to jump at the opportunity to hang it so I really didn't even have to butter him up for this one...

Use the toothpaste trick on the back of your animal too, and...ladies and gentle men...I present to you... the framed animal head.

This guy is a Scimitar Oryx, generally found in Africa. Beau had the privilege of shooting him in 2011 (but in South Texas) and I'll be honest, he really is SO pretty! (Not to mention, the meat alone fed us for over an entire year and was, hands down, the best meat in the WORLD. No lie.) That blank space at the bottom? I'm envisioning some sort of little plaque with a description of the animal along with when/where he was shot. And don't even think for a second this guy won't be decked out for every holiday that rolls around...he's known for wearing a Santa hat, ya know...

To give you a better idea as to where he's hanging-this is in one of the corners of our living room...
I'm picturing maybe a leather chair and a side table to go along the other wall to balance it out. Maybe some shelves too? Iono? I'm not the decorator here...I just hang dead things on mah walls.

Love it? Hate it? How'd I do?!

Poof Patrol to the Rescue

Remember that time you asked for a tutorial on poofing your hair so I filmed a really quick, low-quality video with terrible lighting? I may be able to poof the crap outta some hair but (obviously) video filming and editing is not my forte. Sorry friends...you'll get the point anyways.

And for the record, yes-my favorite word is "um."

Bathtime, babies & snuggles...that's what weekends are made of.

one. Enjoying her newfound favorite toy (aka: mom's old makeup brush). Why is it that dogs love everything EXCEPT the toys you buy for them?!
two. Bathtime for our little girl. It goes without saying she hated every minute of it.
three. Baby shower for my sissy-in-law! She's currently in the hospital at 23 weeks, unable to move from a 45 degree angle, and fully dilated (yes-prayers needed) so her husband came in her place and we Skyped her during the entire shower. Trooper of a daddy, if I must say so myself!
four. Prezzies for my soon-to-be-here nieces! Would you expect any less from their waterbaby of an aunt?! ;)
five. Saturday morning status: every body and every toy in Oakley's pen with a Saved By The Bell marathon on the TV. She's the boss these days.
six. Date night at Lupe Tortilla's with my guy. I was bad. Really bad....beer + chips + tortillas...oops...but it felt so good! (Katie..."Can we get more tomatoes?"
seven. Baby shower inspiration for the shower I'm hosting next weekend! (Image from Pinterest. I can only hope mine looks 1/2 that decent.)
eight. Don't let those puppy dog eyes fool you. This little girl was an absolute TERROR 99% of the day yesterday. Tears were shed. Grandma was called. And by the grace of God, Oakley managed to make it through the day without me throwing her across the neighborhood. (Kidding. If you think I would ever in my life do anything that harm that sweet-looking demon -of-a-dog, you're out of your mind. But I wanted to...)
nine. FINALLY a very sweet Oakley rewarded with late night snuggles. Trying to soak in every single second of holding her while she's "little". Won't be long before she's bigger than me... :(

PS-guess who's been a good girl and already finished her project for this week's link up?! Oh ya....it happened. #thatsafirst #beaudidmostofit

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. - Guacamole Salsa

Happy Nutrition Day, y'all!! Working in the supplement industry and being the health junkie I am, you didn't actually think I would go today without posting something nutrition-related...did you?!?!

I'm not a homemade salsa kinda girl. If it already comes premade in a jar, and is semi-healthy, there's absolutely no reason for me to make it. But this...THIS...stuff does NOT come premade in a jar and is DE-LISH and, therefore, I'll be making my own salsa from here on out.

I've made it a few times now using it as a dip at a party and even a salad dressing and found myself literally licking the spoon every single time. The best part: it's perfectly healthy...no sugar, yeast, vinegar or gluten.

If my taste buds had to accurately describe how they feel about guacamole salsa, it'd look a little something like so:

skfaihvandfboej[hojapdofmbp'adjhoiahdfvoihad098b7ya9pdhb[aoijg[0H3W098T!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically it's some good shizz and we don't ever doubt mah taste buds...mmmkay?

Here's what you'll need:
2 avocados | 1 jalapeño | 1/3 bunch cilantro | 1 garlic clove | 1 lb. tomatillos (peeled & quartered) | sea salt | pepper

Toss 'em all in your Ninja (or blender) in the following order (from bottom to top): tomatillos, jalapeño, cilantro, avocado, garlic, sea salt, pepper. The order is important because if you don't put the tomatillos at the bottom of your blender, the avocado could get stuck on the blades, causing it to stick and not blend well. Once everything is in your blender, give her a good whirl!

Chill for 30-45 minutes before serving & enjoy!

My mouth is watering just looking at it. No joke.

For those of you trying to keep your girlish figure (aka: 99.9% of us), I recommend a couple different chip options. Yes, ladies. This means no more tortilla chips!

Terra Chips (Original) & Lentil Chips (Sea Salt Flavor) - staples in my house
Both are ridiculously healthy, natural and not loaded with crap. Terra Chips are chips made of assorted roots (sweet potatoes, taro roots, etc) and the lentil chips are a clean blend of lentil flour, a little potato starch and sea salt. I've been eating these for, well, years now and can't even remember the last time I bought "real" chips. Just trust me on this one, would ya?

#Kryshsdotexas: Part 2

Wrapping up last weekend's shenans with none other than THE Katie K. from Keep Calm and Carry On. (Duh.)... If you missed part one, you might want to start here first.

Before we begin, I must say these last two days were my absolute favorite. It felt like Katie & Billy lived here with us (wishful thinking!) and we were on a big ol' double date.  It just felt so right...if only I could convince them to move here...

Sunday evening began the tour de Houston. To us Houstonians, downtown is really no big deal. Maybe it's because we're used to it and take it for granted? Perhaps it's because downtown is nothing but one way streets and all it does it drive me bat sh*t crazy? Either way-it was so neat to see Katie and Billy's reactions when we'd pass by all the really big buildings! First, Ohio doesn't have rodeos. Second, it snows 90% of the year there and now, they don't have tall buildings?! Strike three, Ohio, yer out! ;) Kidding. But Billy is mildly obsessed with real estate of any kind so you could totally tell he was in his element when he saw the downtown skyline!

Beau and I really wanted them to capture every single thing about us and our hometown so we took them by U of H, Beau's frat house and even stopped for a photo op in front of the DZ house! (Where all my sisters at?!)

Dinner was devoured at the Downtown Aquarium. It's basically a HUGE aquarium with a restaurant inside. I've been here a few times a lonngggg time ago and forgot just how cool it really is! Eating dinner next to sharks and sting rays? Yes, please!

Dinner was followed up with beer tasting at The Yardhouse in City Center. Beau and I used to live right by this bar and spent several hundreds of dollars in booze fun nights here so it was only appropriate we take them back there.

It goes without saying a fire, footie pjs and a movie (The Lucky One) were a necessity when we got back home. :)

Monday morning we showed Katie & Billy around the Galleria area did a little shopping (ahem-while the boys found a bar to booze at) and also where I surprised her with something I've been wanting to get her for a while now...

Sidenote: the only thing that sucks about having a DSLR camera is that NO ONE else knows how to use them. Sorry for the blurry pic...someone needs to teach that man in Kate Spade how to use a real camera! ;)

What's in the bag?!

Outside reads: "Birds of a feather. Two of a kind. Perfect fair. Partners in crime. Peas in a pod. Sidekick."
Inside reads: Best Friend Ever

I pinned this bracelet a LONG time ago and it was just the perfect time to get it for her. :) A little something we each have to remind ourselves of one another. Cheesy? Yes. But when you live SO far away from someone you feel like you've known for your entire life, you do what you can.

PS: She may or may not have shed a tear in the store. That Katie...she's a real softy! ;)

Aight-moving right along...

Following the Galleria was a stop at the infamous Waterwall...

Which also served as a perfect little photo session with Katie & Billhead! :)

Aren't they just the cayuustest?!

Our final destination for the trip was one last stop at the Houston Rodeo to see none other than THE Jason Aldean!

...but not before a very important poofing session in the parking lot...
(tutorial coming soon!) ;)

I think I speak for millions of women when I say there is absolutely NOTHING sexier than a man in ripped jeans, cowboy boots and a microphone in his hand. Beau-the only thing you're missing is a microphone. Get on that, mmmkay?! ;)

Tell me Katie & Billy don't make perfect little Texans?! (Except the tennis shoes, Billhead.)

I won't even go into detail about the airport situation the next morning. There were hugs, and tears, and tissues, and more tears, and it I hated every. single. minute of it. Not because of fear of never seeing one another again (because lezbehonest, we'll have another trip planned soon enough), but more so because truthfully, it downright sucks to live thousands of miles away from someone like Katie. Someone who just gets you. Someone you are so different from yet have SO much more in common with. Someone who feels like your sister, even though you've officially only known each other for a couple of years and have only really met in person 3 times now.

Katie-it was so surreal having YOU in MY city. SO surreal! Waking up with you and Billy only a staircase away, sharing laughs on the front porch, sipping moonshine from a mason jar, crashing on the couch after a late night out, repeating one-liners from the Billhead ("Can we get some more tomatoes?"), getting ready together in the mornings and making ice coffee pit stops made me feel like you were a part of my everyday life and that the distance between the two of us didn't even exist. I cherish our friendship more than you know and am so very grateful this crazy blogging world brought you and Billy into our lives. We love and miss Y'ALL so so much! You don't even know. Come back soon, ya heard?! ;)

Whew! Mushy stuff ends here. Tomorrow you'll get to see little Miss Oakley's very first photoshoot. She's a little sassafras, y'all! I can't wait to show her off. ;) In the meantime, here's a little something to tide you over:

We can't get enough of her clumsy body and forehead wrinkles!
