21 Clear Signs You're A Dog Mom

1. The top item on your to-do list every week is "Buy more bones."

2. You know the 16th of every month is always the day you have to coat that delicious little heart worm pill in 2 pounds of peanut butter and shove it down your 4-legged creature's throat.

3. Everything on your counters is pushed all the way to the very back for fear of lurking counter surfers.

4. Your couch hasn't seen throw pillows since the day you brought your furry friend home.

5. Morning routines now involve encouraging potty breaks, puppy food and long walks around the hood.

6. The lunch breaks you used to use for shopping purposes have now been taken over by trips back home for more encouraging potty breaks and yet another walk.

7. Pumpkin, peanut butter and coconut oil are what you now refer to as "puppy crack".

8. Your Instagram feed looks like this, this and this.

9. Slobber, dog hair and wet nose prints are your newest accessories.

10. Nose art can and will always be found on your car window, your front door, your back door, your refrigerator door, your dishwasher and your shower door.

11. You now vacuum 2 times a week rather than 2 times a month and now that you have this curious animal following you around and biting at the cord, it takes twice as long.

12. Your garbage can has a new spot: behind the closed pantry door and facing backwards at all times.

13. Date nights are cut short by a few hours thanks to the guilt that comes with leaving your fur child in a kennel.

14. Conversations with friends went from "What's your favorite vodka?" to "What kind of food do you feed your dog?"

15. Day trips to the bar have turned into trips to the dog park.

16. There's no such thing as sleeping in on the weekends.

17. Your "No dogs on the bed or couch" rule went out the door at month 2.

18. A new section of your budget is carved out specifically for "The Dog".

19. Money spent on vacations is now spent on training sessions and boarding.

20. Getting ready in the mornings consists of 80 pounds of fur in your lap while her nose deep dives into the makeup drawer for brushes.

21. Speaking of couches...yours is now covered in sheets.

Goodness gracious...it's amazing how these little rascals change us so much and so quickly...all for the better, of course!

  2. Haha i completely relate to this now that i am a "fur momma!" lol while reading, basically doing a check mark on each one since that is what is currently going on in my household!!! :-)

  3. Love it - and I agree with this one just as much as I do Tay's "Not a mom" list. My favorites:
    3. Everything on your counters is pushed all the way to the very back for fear of lurking counter surfers. (because you JUST never know)

    16. There's no such thing as sleeping in on the weekends.(because i haven't slept past 7 am, even on weekends, since we got the dog....three years ago)

  4. I couldn't agree more. We've got three of them running wild in our house and they make me go cray sometimes, but God love 'em. I wouldn't be me without them.

  5. LOL. I can totally relate to this. When company comes over, we have to "un-sheet" everything so they can sit down, LOL.

  6. i love this. you should also add, can't come home from target without another dog toy.

  7. Car window nose art, YES! And a lint roller is now a permanent addition to my car console. Dangit if I swore I would never be that girl who begs her friends to forgive her for fur-covered seats, but our dog just loves car rides so much that how can I say no to that sweet face?!

  8. so so SOO true, & I love every bit of it!! except mine is an 8lb dog not 80! ha!

  9. Well I have to say you hit the nail right on the head! All of these are upheld in our household too, and it doesn't bother me one bit! I <3 being a puppy mamma!

That picture of Oakley in front of the fire place makes your fireplace look so teeny. She is growing like a weed!

  10. I can totally relate. I love my pups. I am curious, how do you use/feed your dog coconut oil? My malti-poo's have crazy allergies and I have done a little research on the benefits of coconut oil for pets, but I am unsure how to introduce it to them. I would love to hear your insight!

  11. Good lorrrrrrd will dogs do anything for a nibble of peanut butter! Holly's other favorite snacks are yogurt and bananas and I kid you not, no matter how quiet I try to be, she can hear the opening of a yogurt container and the peeling a banana from upstairs and is drooling at my feet before I can blink!

But for serious, dogs make life worth living and I can't imagine my days without this list in it. :)

  12. So true! Glad I'm not the only one out there who is totally obsessed/in love with their dog :)

  13. I can relate to every single one of these statements. I just stalked up at Sam's on dog bones because I'm so tired of going every other week. Luckily my dogs think ice cubes are treats so if I run out of real treats I'm safe until my next trip to the store ;)

  14. So funny! I can relate to just about all of these! You will be able to sleep in again one day though! When Huck turned 2 it was like he became a teenager..he doesn't wake up on the weekends till much later now and we enjoy the extra zzzz's! Also, you know you're a crazy dog lady when you only go on vacations that allow you to bring your fur baby, too! We are going away next weekend to a resort in Northern WA that allows pets. It was my only condition for the hubby: Find somewhere where Huckleberry can come, too! Because really, vacation isn't fun when you are tripping with guilt from leaving the pup behind :( !!

  15. I can relate to this especially with the slobber on everything. Once a week I wipe down our walls in the hallway, lower cabinets in the kitchen, and the refrigerator thanks to my 120 lb, french mastiff, furbaby!!! and I would not trade this task for the alternative any day!!!

  16. Lucky for me my pup is the size of a chipmunk. All I really have to worry about with her is "potty time".....and losing her under the pillows on our bed. I seriously searched the house for an hour the other day thinking she got out and there she was snuggled up under all the pillows.

  17. I know this sounds terrible but I read to make sure it was ok...Tilly loves chips. She will come running from outside when she hears me pulling a bag from the pantry. I love this post but mostly I just love the love we all have for our sweet babies.

  21. LOVE! I have had a draft much like this for months. I may link up with you and post it now :)

  22. We have a dog that likes to eat early but will go right back to sleep after a full belly. My brothers dog is up EARLY everyday for the day. I get text from him all the time early on the weekends. When I don't response until hours later his response back is always "sorry I forget not everyone has a crazy, full of energy kind of dog" hahah

    ReplyDelete
  23. So true and yet I wouldn't trade any of it in <3

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha! I relate to every word. We have double trouble so I fell ya! 96 lbs and 75 lbs of pure sweet, innocent love that I wouldn't trade for a bizollion dollars. And that's the truth!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree and can relate to 100% of all of these! But its the things we do for the furbabys!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yup, yup, yup! Haha! I love this. My K9 kids are everything to me!

  27. This is adorable and I totally agree! With the exception of this new trend I see with (mostly ladies) bringing their little dogs into retail stores and letting them run havoc on furniture which I think is a disgrace...I think all is fair in love and pets. If sewing your own dog clothes aren't a sure sign of canine obsession I don't know what is...thanks! http://www.vida-interiors.com/2014/06/an-upcycled-dog-coat-for-flint-pit.html
