Saw It. Pinned it. Did it. - DIY Burlap Balls

Other than the fact that we're one day away from Friday, Wednesday and Thursday nights are definitely becoming my favorite nights of the week for the sole reason of this link up. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Wednesday nights are now devoted to a few glasses of wine, crafting and blogging. Oh the life...

I came across these little balls (he!) via the Pinnerwebs and knew instantly they would be dangling from my Christmas tree this year. (Yuu know...seeing that we are fully moved in and actually have a Christmas tree this year. You gotta visualize, people.)

Adorable: check!
Minimal materials: check!
Reasonable cost: check!
Quick & easy project: I plead the 5th

What you'll need:
Hot glue gun (w/ plenty of glue sticks)
Ornaments (Any size. Glass or plastic. I prefer glass.)
One yard of burlap
Twine
Skissors (not pictured)
XL glass of vino for sanity's sake

Cut your burlap into squares. Mine varied in size but I tried to keep them 1 1/2 to 2 inches in length and width. All you type A's out there...don't worry. They don't have to be cut perfectly. That's the beauty in this project!

Fold your little squares like so by pinching the center and giving it a little flowery look.
(Sorry-I don't know how to explain this better!) Just do what I did here:

Place a dollop of hot glue at the base of your "flower" and hold it onto your ornament until the glue begins to harden. (Just a dollop, now!)

Continue placing your pieces right next to one another to fill in all the spaces & hire your husband to photograph the entire process. (Thanks, babe!)

When your ornament starts to look like it has a toupee
(Donald Trump, anyone?!) stop and take a picture. ;)

Fill up all the empty space on your ornament with your burlap pieces until it's completely covered. Lace a piece of twine through the loop, tie it off with a knot and she's ready to go!

Voila!!

While I didn't realize how time consuming just one of these babies would be, I only had time to make one for now. This one took approximately 2 hours from start to finish but now that I got the hang of things, I feel the like rest might not take quite as long. (Once can only hope!) The remaining 12 will be made at a later date...you know...when I have a full 24 hour period and a case of wine to designate to making burlap balls. ;)

  38. I love these and need to make some for the wedding to go with the tissue paper pom poms I am going to have hanging from the ceiling. I might even be able to do this with the bigger Styrofoam balls, other than how long it took you to do the little ornament...hmm maybe if I teach my bridesmaids how to do them and just leave out the estimated time frame...I doubt anyone will volunteer to make a second one but at least I will have 7 of them made (:
