Can you blame me?

This is supposed to be a happy post.

This is supposed to be the post where I show off my professional wedding pictures that I have patiently been waiting for and have everyone "Ooooh" and "Aaaah" over.

But it's not.

Well...not this part, anyways.

I'm actually pretty bummed, errr-extremely disappointed, in our photographer. I just don't know what went wrong.

Sure... we have the traditional "formal" pictures of Beau and I with our wedding party, friends and family. We also have a couple shots of cutting the cakes and doing the champagne toast and being on the dance floor so I'm not discounting that. We even have some really great ones of just the two of us from our first and last dance. ((thank God we at least have those.))

...but that's it...

As I flicked through the 1400 pictures on the cd today, I realized something...

There are only two...yes, TWO, posed (not candid & drunk) pictures of just Beau and I-one of us under the gazebo where we had our ceremony and one on a 1953 pickup that I surprised Beau with. TWO, people! And of the whopping TWO pictures, only one is somewhat decent but is still nothing to be proud of.

1400 freakin' pictures and only TWO are posed pictures of just the two of us. Unbelievable.

What happened to the shots of us gazing into one another's eyes, or kissing under my veil, or standing in front of a cool looking wall???

Well...just as any sane happily married newlywed would do...I'm seriously contemplating putting the dress back on, getting my hair re-done, having my makeup done professionally again and having Beau get all dressed up one more time just to get the pictures we were short-changed on our wedding day. No, seriously.

These are pictures I've waited to have my entire life. These are pictures we deserve and I just know if I don't do something now, I will kick myself in the ass for the rest of my life.

Am I nuts for even considering this?

We spent thousands of dollars on this one magical day where everything went so right. How could something so important go so wrong?

Anyways-sorry for being such a brat today. I should be grateful for the photos I DO have and appreciate all the memories they have already created. So while I'm off researching photographers for a "mock wedding day photo shoot" I am absolutely thrilled (no, really!) to leave some of my favorites with you...

Learn from my mistake, girlies: Hire a photographer that comes with TWO people behind cameras, not just one, and MAKE them take every single picture you've ever dreamed of. Choose a photographer that fits your style (mine was too traditional...I should have gone with more creative/artistic). Oh-and if it's in your budget-hire a videographer.

Maybe I'll change my mind and begin somewhat liking the two puny photos of just the two of us but I still wished there were more...

  1. You had a beautiful wedding from the pics but I completely understandwhere you are coming from. I got married 4 years ago and my ohotographer was a doozy too. Every girl dreams of those certain wedding pics. I say get dressed up and wear your dress again and take those pics!!!!

  2. Oh Stephanie, I am so sorry!!! This is one of my biggest fears and trust me, you are not crazy for thinking about a "redo". The ones you did share, are great though!!

I had wondered about having two photographers at my wedding, thankfully my photographer does offer this so now that you've suggested it, I will def be doing that! I also am dying to have a videographer, of course the company I want is way on the other side of the country, but I might just have to fork out that money. ha! Go to Vimeo and type in Capture Studios.

Anyway, I hope you decide to do whatever will you make you happy!

  3. Aww Steph, I am sorry you are feeling this way! I absolutely love the photos that you did post...but I agree with you about having some more lovely photos of the two of you. I mean, besides the memories....photos are all you have! I am paying $350 extra for a 2nd photographer and we are considering a videographer as well.

PS I love the pink and white bouquets - you have such an eye for detail! xo =)

  4. First - the photos you did post are so pretty. I LOVE that last one of you guys in back of the truck! SO CUTE!

Second - I'm sorry hon! I am TERRIFIED that I will be disappointed in my pictures. I say if you really want some cute photos of you two together, put that dress back on, rent another tux and take some more photos!!! You deserve photos that you're going to cherish for the rest of your life! :)

  5. Okay first thing, the pictures you got were fantastic--such a beautiful wedding!

Second, I would be completely irate if I were you. This two picture situation is not acceptable! Boo!

  6. I'm sorry, I think you guys should get dressed up and do something like that.

It would be fun to remember how you got dressed up to have lovey dovey pictures. Don't hesitate to contact the photographer and respectfully let them know you are not a happy customer. They should know your frustration.

  7. I have to tell you something that I think will make you feel better.... I felt THE exact same way after we got our wedding photographs back. I had two photographers (from the same company) there and I only liked 1 picture. And the picture she kept using to advertise was one I hated. But... Now... almost 2 years later - I went through them again to make our album (I didn't even want to make one because I didn't dig the pics) I started to see them differently.

But. Please, if you really dislike them, take a few again. But nothing will ever recapture the way you felt that day. Even the imperfections in the photographs will be something special about your day.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Definitely let that photographer know how you feel :(

  8. You are not in the wrong at all, I'm sorry that you didn't get more shots of the memories from that day. But I have to say these that you showed are beautiful. I love the one of you and the bridesmaids with the truck and the one of the two of you riding in the back :)

  9. Aww, so sorry to here that! I personally don't think there is anything wrong with doing a re-do, that is something that I have considered if my pictures don't turn out great so don't feel bad. Love the pictures you posted though, the wedding party looks great and you look stunning!

  10. Aww gah girl I am so sorry!! I researched photographers for foreverrr when we got engaged. Then I ended up choosing a friend & her boyfriend (who have their own business now). I would def do some retakes!! It could just be you & your hubby!

  11. My friend is a pro photographer. I help her when the couple wants two people. You should have a re-do session. Its a very common thing. Good Luck!

  12. Our photographer wasn't that great either, but we were cheap so I guess you get what you pay for! Your pictures above are great though, beautiful wedding!

  13. Two words: Paige Newton (http://paigenewtonphotography.com/#Gallery/WELCOME.-/image_31447)

I found her because a friend "liked" her on facebook a while back. Then when I was going through her photos I thought to myself "This is who I want to do MY wedding photos...ya know, when I find my man and get married..."

My friend is using her for her wedding in June and I am so excited to see what she comes up with. Paige is so creative and her photography/editing looks stunning! No, I've never had my photo taken by her or met her in person, but my friend Julie has met her, is using her and from the blog stalking I've done from her site I HIGHLY recommend her!

Sorry you didn't get the wedding photos you wanted but you looked absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations to you and Beau!

  14. I would totally get pictures redone if I didn't get what I wanted. But on a side note, you looked beautiful and the day looked incredible! I would also check with a lot of your guests for pictures...you'd be surprised at some of the great shots people can get! :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. omg! Love the one of you and the girls walking! and the one of you and Beau in the truck! you looked beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't think you are nuts for wanting to do that at all!!! Our photographer was great and I loved the things he got....but there just wasn't enough time in the day to get everything I desired. However, between all our friends and family, we have some great shots to choose from. But like I said, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to put that dress on and take some more!! I've actually been debating a "Trash the Dress" shoot...though I don't know if I'd actually want to ruin my dress:)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I totally agree, as a photographer, life's little moments can't always be captured by one person alone. I actually plan to have 3 photographers, and 2 videographers (when and if the day comes). I want to cherish each and all moments of the big day.

Although, I do love the ones in front of the jail/little town.

  18. I am sorry that your pictures didn't turn out the way you liked!! I would totally do a rerun of photos!! The photos that you posted aren't BAD, there just is no flair, they look like anyone could have taken them (no offense). But overall, your day looked great and so did you and hubby!!! ;)

  19. Your pictures are absolutely beautiful! Let me tell you though - I had the SAME feelings after my wedding CD came in. We had plenty of posed photos, but what I DIDN'T have was any of the beautiful candid photos of us interacting with our family members. I don't even have a picture of just me and my mom and dad. It made me incredibly sad. I also don't have a good photo of my mom and dad together and they are the ones who put the whole event together! You live and you learn...I should've been MORE CLEAR with my photog. about what I NEEDED to have.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm so sorry hun! I definitely don't think you are crazy..I would be livid and demand them to take more. If you aren't 100% happy with the pictures he gave you, do it again and get all dressed up again or ask for money back or something at the LEAST. Let me know what you decide! it'll all work out :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. WHAT!!!!! Oh no, that is horrible! I can't believe your photographer did that! Did you ask them what happened to all the other photos? I would for sure ask...and let them know how disappointed you are and that you will not be recommending them to any of your friends. I say that for sure you should dress up again and get those photos...you will cherish those for the rest of your life! I'm so sorry this happened to you. The photos you did post are beautiful though!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think the photos aren't THAT bad Steph! I do have a question for you though.... Did they shoot your engagement photos too?? Those were great!
Another idea you could have is to just have you and Beau get dressed up and have some pictures done at the Frio, kind of like a trash the dress session but not in brown Galveston water. At least you will be able to dry clean river water out of the dress. Just a thought! Those would be fun photos to have forever!

    ReplyDelete
  23. P.S. When you review them be sure to slyly mention the issues so other brides don't have the same problems!

    ReplyDelete
  24. OH GURRL! Don't you apologize! YOU ARE NOT BEING A BRAT! The photos that you do have are wonderful.....but you deserve to have your pick! I would be so furious, and I completely understand why you're upset! Do a "trash the dress" photo shoot! You can get all done up and get some cute pics....then do some fun ones in crazy locations! :) Then of course get your gorgeous dress cleaned and preserved after. And be sure to tell your photog you're upset! If he/she wants good reviews they'll do what needs to be done to make you happy!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm so sorry to hear that! The pics above are so cute though. But just to give you some solidarity, I would totally put that dress on and do more poses, LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  26. The pictures you posted are adorable! If I were you, I would either ask your photographer for another shoot or find someone else to. One of my besties put her dress back on and took some extra pictures and it worked out just fine. I am a big picture person so I would probably get dressed up and take some more if I wasn't happy with what I saw. Good luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. if you know those extra pictured that are missing were taken, then call them. I had my cds come with HALF of the pictures that were took (NONE of the ceremony or of when I was getting ready so I knew something was wrong) I called, and they had a screw up and resent the cds with EVERYTHING. now I only am missing one picture (the one of my inlaws walking into the reception but we found one from a guest that was good so we replaced it with that) I hope this helps :) good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  28. If I were you I would definitely retake them if you are not happy with them. I know you and it will bother you forever if you dont!! On a positive note A LOT of people were taking pics with good cameras so hopefully you can find some of them as well! I love you!!

  29. Since Blogger was being dumb and deleted the comment I left you, I wanted to tell you again to check out Paige Newton Photography. She's awesome and I'm sure could help you recreate some wedding day photos! She's doing my friend's wedding next month!

  30. holy crykes. i just found your blog from busy bee and i love it, new folower btw. but i just gort married less than 2 weeks ago, and i have some issues too like that, not with our photog (i haven't got the pics yet, but i'm wondering) and don't know what to do either. i feel like you, would i be a brat or major bridezilla if i could correct some things?? idk. good luck to you!

  31. I am having this same problem and I'm utterly depressed by it. I don't know how the day flew by and we weren't able to get many photos of us together. I have already discussed doing photo redos with my sister in law and now that I know this story, I feel completely more comfortable doing so.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You are NOT abrat and this COMPLETELY hit home with me!! We spent 20-25% of our budget on our photographer and out of the 3000 pics pretty much same thing happened as you EXCEPT a little worse. A BUNCH of pics that we ALL remember taking went missing. (I think got deleted). Pics such as me with my mom and mil, Jeremy with my dad, our cake cutting, a BUNCH of pics of Jeremy and I with our wedding party, us in our limo, etc. Getting our pics back felt SO disappointing even though the ones we did receive were beyond amazing, just knowing a bunch that were missing and important to us just made me SO mad! Even after getting thousands of dollars back and a bunch of "freebies" I am still beyond upset. I REALLY wanted to do a "redo" shoot but Jeremy wouldn't do it. :(
