22 Foods You Will Always Find in My Kitchen (...Then Some!)

22 foods

As promised, and to follow up with yesterday's post on the 12 foods you will never find in my kitchen, I thought it'd be fun to share with you the foods that you will most likely always and forever find in my kitchen, that is, unless I've consumed them all. :)

Like I said in my previous post, I'm not a nutritionist, a dietician or a doctor. I don't deem myself to be an "expert", by any means. I'm just a girl who loves to read, research and learn about food and the way it can help (or hinder) our bodies. These are just the foods I've found that work for me. They satisfy my hunger, nourish my body, keep me feeling good and help keep my weight down. I can only hope that the way I am eating now will only help as I age over the years to come.

Again-I AM human, y'all! The weekends are my time to let go a little...sip on a margarita or two...enjoy a little chips and salsa...drink a beer by the pool. I've found that as long as I eat clean during the week and eat kinda, sorta clean on the weekends, I still feel good and am able to maintain a healthy body weight. Note: by "letting go a little", I do not mean I veg out on burgers, fries, nachos and pizza during the weekend. I just mean I allow myself to live a little...take a bite of a piece of cake, actually enjoy a tortilla with my fajitas or, for God's sake, eat a piece of pita bread!

Ok. I'll shut up now. In no particular order:
  1. Avocadoes
  2. Veganaise (mayo substitute)
  3. Almonds
  4. Organic coconut oil
  5. Almond cheese (for all you trying to be dairy free, I LOVE this stuff!)
  6. Fresh salads
  7. Tuna
  8. Truvia
  9. Apples
  10. Peaches
  11. Pears
  12. Hummus (I LOVE Sabra's but here lately, I've been making my own!)
  13. Larabars (and more recently, QuestBars)
  14. Unsweetened almond milk (for recipes and protein shakes)
  15. Cucumbers
  16. Bell peppers
  17. 72% dark chocolate chips (to put my sweet tooth in check!)
  18. Organic sugar-free peanut and almond butter
  19. Organic cage-free eggs
  20. Coffee (a must!)
  21. Rolled oats (to use in recipes like this and protein shakes)
  22. Wine...to keep my sanity!

Of course, not pictured are the specific foods I'd have for whatever meals we have planned for the week. This is usually something along the lines of chicken, salmon, tilapia, shrimp, ground turkey, venison, lots of veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, onions, zucchini, asparagus, etc...), sweet potatoes...and so on.

Also not pictured (simply because I couldn't find the image in the program I was using) but I feel they are important to mention as they are definitely staples in my house:
  • Earth Balance spread (soy-free, dairy-free butter substitute)
  • Oat, almond and coconut flours (for recipes like this one)
  • QuestBars
  • Terra & Lentil Chips
  • Jay Robb Protein Powder (for protein shakes and some recipes)
  • Erythritol (sugar alcohol sugar substitute)

I hope this helps you on your journey to leading a more healthy lifestyle! MANY of you had questions from yesterday's post so please feel free to leave them in the comments section below or shoot me an email at stephandbeau@gmail.com. :)

  3. How is the Veganaise compared to Mayonaise?

I've been snacking on Tribe Everything Hummus lately! So delicious!

  4. Almond cheese?! I've never heard of this! I LOVE cheese and have a hard time staying away. I will be trying almond cheese this weekend. Thanks for the info! :)

  5. I was thinking the same thing about almond cheese! Hmmm, I'll have to try it! Loved these lists.. I've been trying to keep up a "clean" week and allow for some not-so-clean eats and drinks on the weekends. Ps. homemade hummus is something I've always wanted to try!

  7. I don't think the flour substitutes sound too bad. Might have to convince my mom to try them as we'll since she has to eat gluten free. :) will have to work on trying some things. Wish they would give out samples

  8. This is similar to what our fridge/pantry look like as well! I do the same thing and let myself cheat a tad on the weekends. Because I've learned if I cheat too much it doesn't go well since we've been eating more clean for a while now. Crazy how your body adjusts so quickly!

Have you tried making your own mayo?! It's super easy and delicious!! We also make our own oat flour and its MUCH cheaper than buying it.

  9. Hey girl! I haven't commented in awhile cuz I prefer to LURK! ;)

Anyhow, I LOVE your healthy eating posts. This past year I've been trying to get myself in check. I've been blessed with a fast metabolism so I'm ashamed to admit I ate fast food for almost every meal for the past few years. UGH! So gross for your body!

Anyways, I'm taking things slow and cutting out stuff like dairy when I can. I'm no where near perfect but posts like this are encouraging to me! Right now I'm at like 30% super healthy and hope to be at 50% by the end of the year. :/ Keep it up!

I must find that almond cheese.

  11. If you are truly wanting to avoid soy, you might want to cut out or switch a few items. The Vegenaise, Sabra hummus, and the almond "cheese" all contain soy. I got SO excited when you first blogged about the almond cheese, but was disappointed when I read the label in the store. My 3 year old is allergic to soy and dairy so I read labels like crazy. I cannot remember the brand of hummus I buy, but it's made with olive oil instead of soybean oil. I need to try to make it myself!

We eat mostly unprocessed foods due to my daughter's allergies and I believe our entire family has benefited from it. I love reading your blog!

  12. I loved these two posts! I love working out and have been for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, my diet has not mirrored my workout habits. I have been taking the summer to learn more about nutrition and the best ways to fuel my body! I am cutting out dairy, gluten and meat for 21 days to detox and reset clean eating habits.

  13. What are your favorite lunches to pack? I always seem to get in a rut trying to be healthy at lunch. I have been packing salads and cottage cheese. I used to have Campbell's soup a lot but cut that out because I know it is not healthy. What do you suggest?

  14. I'm curious what you eat your hummus with? Love this post and I think I need to go shopping now!

  15. Great posts Steph! Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of the foods on this list - veganaise, coconut oil, almond cheese, almond milk, almond butter, and Quest bars!! But I'm trying with what we do have... x

  16. What kind of breakfast do you have during the week? I seem to have the hardest time eating a healthy breakfast and not being hungry by 10am.

I can't wait to get Questbars thanks for the info!

  18. I love this post (and the "don'ts" before it) - but I have a Q for you - any suggestions for a milk alternative if you're allergic to almonds? I don't have a nut allergy but for some weird reason, it's mostly just almonds. I love cashew milk & butter, but it's just SO $$$$. Any ideas???
