While I have yet to find a gray hair (thanks to an over abundance of highlights) and while gravity hasn't quite gotten a hold of my massive B-cups, I'm starting to see what they're talking about when they say "falling apart".
Besides the fact that I dislocated a shoulder earlier this year over something ridiculously dumb, I'm now dealing with quite possibly one of the worst things a woman could ever imagine...a ripped earring hole.
There. It's out.
No more earrings for me. Slap a baseball cap on me, give me a pair of boxers and consider me a boy. I'm done. Or at least, as a woman who can't wear earrings any more, that's how I feel. Talk about dewomanizing a girl in .4 seconds...
And to make matters worse...I'm in a wedding next weekend and the bride's gift to us? Kendra Freaking Scott earrings. Just. My. Luck.
So where do I go from here? Do I go the rest of my life without earrings? Do I have the plastic surgery done to fix my "elongated" hole, as they call it? Do I get it re-pierced higher up on my lobe or should I just end it altogether?
Seriously. Who rips their earring hole clean out of their head? Oh wait-I do. And I need your advice before I go Googling stuff and work myself up to think I have cancer of the ear hole.
Never in my twenty-something years did I think I would find #3 on my to-do list...
Clip-ons....SMH...
OUCH!! If you read The Small Things Blog, she had the same problem and did the surgery to fix it! And Kendra Scott earrings!! I would be sad about those too:)
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend's roommate just got the surgery done to fix hers. I guess it would all depend on the cost for me.
ReplyDeleteThat's seriously my biggest fear! I'd definitely suggest getting the plastic surgery done though!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, OUCH! How did you manage that?!
ReplyDeleteUm ripped earring holes are like my biggest fear. I pretty much NEVER wear anything but studs because it gives me the heebiejeebies just thinking about it ha!
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, I'm so terrified of doing that. I hope that it didn't hurt too much!
ReplyDeleteOW! That is terrible! Idk what I'd do without earrings!
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh! How did this happen?!?! Honey that stinks.
ReplyDeleteAh! I'd totally have the surgery to fix it. Just thinking about that happening gives me the heebie jeebies.
ReplyDeleteOMG I feel for ya.... Do they even make clip-on's any more?? J/K I am sure they do. You could skip the Google and do the redneck fix and use duct take ;)
ReplyDeleteJen
My goodness. How on earth did this happen? I would check into surgeries and see how bad the cost and pain is if it means a lot to you to wear earrings. I'm hurting for you!
ReplyDeleteSTEPH! Holy crap. One of my best friends this happened to her like, LAST YEAR and she still has not done anything about it except say to me "when you get married you better get me clip-on earrings." LOL
ReplyDeleteso yeah deff dont wait a year hahaha!! This is kind of related kind of not, but in elementary school i split my lip open falling on the way back to my desk from the water fountain, and split it to the point where it was literally a split....like a lizard, and i was so worried about surgery, but it ended up just being plastic surgery they just numbed my lip and stitched it up! I'm sure it will be very similar situation!!
ill be completely okay if you wear clip-ons to my future wedding :)
xoxoxo
OUCH! That is horrible!! But hey, at least some clip on earrings are cute?? Um... maybe?
ReplyDeleteNot cool. I, too, would be lost without my dangle earrings every day. They are like MY THING. But in the event you do have to find clip-ons, I have seen some cute ones at JCP (I know, random) and Sam Moon. I know a few people who have had the surgery too, so you could always do that and then just be really careful and selective going forward.
ReplyDeleteOoooh no! I can completely empathize with you girl..... my right earlobe has ALWAYS been like that. I was an idiot when I was a little girl all of 3 or 4 years old and right after I had my ears pierced I wanted to be a "big girl" and try on my mom's "big girl earrings" which then tore my hole as it wasn't completely healed yet. I have NEVER been able to wear big earrings and it makes me all kinds of sad. I've always just worn studs, which aren't too bad when they're pretty diamonds ;-)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was a name for this or surgery. Must look into this now... wearing only studs has got to stop.
Whoa! I totally didn't know this was such a common thing. This makes me scared!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely terrified of that happening to me. I am sure there is a fix for it though!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 4, my mom agreed to have my ears pierced. All went well - they healed nicely. About a year later, one of my glittery pink stud earrings got caught on a crocheted blanket and was ripped out. Ouch! It happens. Mine healed somewhat. If I wear really heavy earrings you can tell, but not enough for me to have surgery for it. Maybe yours will heal back enough to not have surgery?
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of this happening! I think I'd at least look into the surgery to see how much it costs.
ReplyDeleteomg, this is a huge fear of mine! Yikes! Is it gross what I kind of what to hear the details? So sorry this happened.
ReplyDeleteOooh my goodness! It sounds painful!! I personally would see how it looks to pierce above it & go that route!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, this makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteI feel you, I'm SO allergic that I can't have my ears pierced. I'm 26 years old and I have to wear clip-ons! It's embarrassing shopping at Claires at my age! I'd call a plastic surgeon and see what the surgery might be like, it might be a quick fix!
ReplyDeleteDid the completley rip or are they just stretched out? Mine have been soooo stretched after wearing so much Kendra Scott I discovered these little stick on patches called "lobe wonder" from amazon that give you amazing support! You should def try them if your hole isn't totally ripped!
ReplyDeleteLuckily, at the ripe old age of 29, I have not experienced this (but I avoid heavy earrings like the plague!). I do remember Kate at the Small Things Blog going thru this recently. link: http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2013/03/earh-mer-gersh-mer-ear.html
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I'd totally pay to have that fixed!
So, I'm not sure if someone else has recommended this already and I'm not sure if this is up your alley but Claire's actually has pierced earring converters that could help possibly for the wedding. I'm not sure, you might have to work with them a little, but here's the link: http://www.claires.com/store/goods/non+navigable+root/cat310124/replacement+parts/p69753/pierced+earring+converters/ . If you wanted to do the surgery someday, you could but I thought this might be a quick fix! Hopefully that helps!
ReplyDeletemy mom has ripped her earring hole twice! When I had my plastic surgery and went for one of my follow up appointments, my doctor sewed up her ear and it literally took 5 seconds and he did it right there in the office. I think it cost her like $200 but she said it was the best money she's ever spent knowing she gets to wear earrings again!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Look into surgery! Good luck. Not being able to wear them would suck.
ReplyDeleteI had both of mine fixed last year! Mine were stretched from too many years of heavy earrings. I went to a plastic surgeon for a consultation and he did them in the same sitting. It wasn't a big deal at all! Basic numbing - they cut and stitch. I had stitches for about a week and then I couldn't wear earrings for a few weeks. After that the plastic surgeon re-pierced my ears. I'm so glad I did it!
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me in third grade, but not because an earring ripped them out... my ears didn't have enough cartilage so the earring pulled the hole down. I got reconstructive surgery from a plastic surgeon. Just a few stitches. After I had my stitches out, my doctor re-pierced them. I have to say that the doctor piercing them hurt worse than the gun that was used the first time.
ReplyDeleteSteph! Andrew's sister just had hers fixed not that long ago! Hers ripped too and she had to wear clip ons until she could go and get it sewn back together! You can't really even tell now! It's basically good as new. I would suggest going and getting your lobe fixed muffin. :) YOU CAN DO IT! LOL but seriously, I hope that you aren't in pain. Love you.
ReplyDeleteYou should get it fixed.. I would personally and Kate from The Small Things blog did and it worked for her!
ReplyDeleteOw...mine are almost to the point of tearing. I have to be very careful when wearing heavy earrings.
ReplyDeleteOuuuccchhhh!
ReplyDeleteHow did this happen!?
Love the new design! I was at the rack the other day and found the most amazing Kate spade clip on earrings! (I didn't get them) but I suggest you check it out!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteIf you have a Belk near you they sell a product that will change and save your life! Here is the link:

Unfortunately, I have to buy them in bulk due to majorly stretched ear holes :(. Don't be weirded out when you see a bunch of little old ladies purchasing them. I am only 32 and have been wearing them for years! I sware by them. If for nothing else, they may give you the opportunity to wear those Kendra Scott beauties :)
That sounds awful! My love did not rip but I had a tumor next to my jawbone and they basically cut my ear off and sewed it back on to remove it. Now my nerves are a mess and at times it's numb and others I get strange pains so I can't wear more than studs :( I feel your "pain" sista!
