Without it, my life would be over.

Lez be foreal...I am definitely no beauty queen. When it comes to buying the best makeup or how to apply the perfect highlighter to your cheekbones (I think that's where that stuff goes...), I'm definitely not your go-to girl. (Please refer to Bargain Blond or PinkLouLou for the perfect make-up tutorials.)

I really know nothing about makeup.
I just know that without it, my life would be over.
(Wow. Vein much?)

I [thought] I got over the whole grocery store makeup line back in 10th grade but, alas, I find myself there again these days.

Don't get me wrong...I love my new MAC foundation and powder that I've recently invested in and am so glad I made the switch from Bare Minerals but when it comes to the rest of my face, I don't really have any one particular product I'm married to.

[Insert Elf product line]

I've actually had several Elf eyeshadow brushes that were given to me by an old roommate back in college and have literally used the crap out of them for the past 5 years. Needless to say, they still look and work like new. Far better than any of the Bare Minerals brushes, to say the least.

I've thought the Elf line was dead in the water this entire time.
(Well, up until about 3 months ago.)

As I've said before, I'm a firm believer that price IS a proxy for premium but I'll be damned if Elf hasn't proved me wrong. Most Tar-jay's carry the line and their most expensive product is like 6 dollhairs.

I mean, what do you have to lose? Really???

My most recent Elf "investments":

Brow brush ($3) & foundation brush ($1)

Golden Bronzer ($3)
(l.o.v.e. this stuff)
Shimmering Facial Whip ($1)
(Compare to Benefit's High Beam)

Lengthening & Volumnizing Mascara ($3)
(I am a mascara snob and overall, I like this stuff! Granted the tube is kind of small so I foresee myself going through it rather quickly but still, not bad.)

[Enter the Stipple Brushes]

...I knew I should have shopped around before taking out a loan for that stupid Mac brush...don't make the same mistake I did. Save yourself $39 and try Elf's...

ELF ($3) vs. MAC ($42)

According to Katie, Elf's primer and tinted moisturizer are where it's at. I have yet to try either but homegirl knows her tinted moisturizer!

As the wife of a financial advisor, I can't help but be proud of myself for saving a pretty penny. Now if I could just get out of the mind set that "Well, I saved $30 on makeup so I can go spend that $30 on something else..." I'd be in good shape...

I'd love to know what Elf products you have tried! .
I'm dying to know if the foundation, powder or eyeliner is worth my dollar...

  1. I bought the liquid eye liner..I've only used it in "chocolate" color but so far I like it pretty well. I will say I love their eye primer product. I use it every day and by 5:00 my eye make up is still very much on and noticeable. And it's $1. SCORE! I also use their face mist that you use after you put all your make up on to keep it all on your face throughout the day. I really like it too!

I actually just bought a Groupon $15 for $30 worth of stuff from there. Oh yes!

I also have a few of their eye shadows too..big fan! I haven't used their mascara or foundation. Their nail polish is okay. And their lip gloss is amazing! (Get the liquid kind..not the solid kind. Trust me!)

  2. I love the ELF eye primer. Works wonders... and it's $1!!! I paid around $30 for an Urban Decay primer, and they honestly work exactly the same.

  3. I LOVE E.L.F.! Couple things...do NOT use their powder foundation. They only have like 2 to choose from, and they're just clumpy and crappy. Secondly, go to their website and give them your email address. They send emails every few days and a lot of time it's like "spend $25 and get this whole {92-piece} kit for just $5!" Super good deals.

    have a great day

  5. I bought the liquid foundation brush but used it once and haven't used it since :( even after using the brush shampoo on it it was not worth using again! But for $1 it's not that big of a waste of money!

  6. I love Elf too! I have their liquid foundation and use the stipple brush with it and I love it! I love their primer too, but the bottle is really small and doesn't last very long.

  9. I have a blush and an eyeshadow set that I got as part of a Christmas special. it's literally like 30 eyeshadows and I think it was $10. I use it everyday and it will last me forever!! I also recently purchased the Mineral Eye Shadows. Love them for a touch of glitter/sparkle for a night out on the town!

  10. I can't agree with ya on the stipple brush... it is pretty lame! You shouldn't have to hold onto the actual brush hairs while applying the foundation to keep them in place. I have one of EVERYTHING elf has to offer and I have no complaints other than that ONE brush!

  12. Wow, I didn't realize how cheap their stuff is! I am definitely going to have to check out these makeup brushes. It boggles my mind how the high end makeup lines can charge $40 for a freaking brush. I want that bronzer too!!

  13. I love ELF! I literally just went on a crazy ELF shopping spree at target the other day, and bought almost everything there. The complexion powder is great, I love all of their brushes. The only thing I wasn't thrilled by was their cream eyeshadows. The color isn't very saturated and so didn't make much of an impact. But I am in love with the facial whip, probably my favorite purchase.

  14. I bought the ELF stipple brush and used it and OMG..OW! The bristles are really rough feeling on my skin. But who even knows? Maybe I am going too hard with the stippling..LOL. I tried going from Bare Minerals to a liquid w/ stipple brush. I went back to BM because the ELF brush hurt :(

BUTTTTT - everything else by ELF is gold. Pure freakin' gold!

  16. lindsey is the ELF QUEEN, seriously. She brought like twenty bags of ELF makeup on vacation with her.

ok maybe not that much, but still. She actually got me to give up my obsession with Dior mascara and now I use the ELF instead. I LOVE IT! And now after seeing her in action in Hawaii, I need that ELF stipple brush!!

  18. It's funny because I talked on my post today about how I am not a huge ELF fan. However I love their gel eyeliner!! Go grab you some!! Tried the tinted moisturizer and HATED it- it smelled and went on like chemical sunscreen with an orange tint. I actually returned it- lol I know, it was only $3. So there's my opinion on that. I actually like sigma brushes the best of all bc they are exact MAC dupes but a fraction of the price.

  19. Followed the Bargain Blond's advice, and I have loved these things:

    1. Eyeshadow primer. Seriously am obsessed.
    2. Warm Bronzer like you have
    3. HD powder. Has changed my life.

The tinted moisturizer was terrible. I looked like an Oompa Loompa.

  20. I love Elf! Where did you find the Elf Foundation brush (Just like the $42 MAC one)? I literally just posted about it today and then went to Target but to no avail.

  21. I just posted tonight about elf's facial whip (I call it highlighter for $1 ... yesssss!) ... and the primer. I like the primer as well. I still us Bare Escentuals ... and elf's primer works just as well as Bare Escentuals' does, for $18 cheaper. Holla!

  22. I loveeeee alll of elf's brushes, especially my eye shadow ones.

I bought the elf look book full of eye shadows the other day at Target, and the colors are so pigmented! They were almost too dark, so it'll take some getting used too.

We should totally be the new elf spokeswomen... just sayin' ;)
