So. Yesterday was my first day at the new gig and in honor of that, I thought I'd give you all a little inside scoop!
First of all-let's just say taking a new job was quite possibly one of the biggest/toughest/scariest decisions of my life. No joke. It is NOT easy leaving a very, very stable company you've been with for 4 years for a start up company that hasn't even been around a few months. But then again...it's not everyday you're given an opportunity to get in with a company at its infant stages and being 26 and childless, Beau and I just felt it was the right thing for me, for us, to do. So...I took the leap!
That being said, my new position is with a healthcare software company here in Houston and I'll be working as the Social Media Analyst! Right up my alley? I think YES! And the best part?! As of now, I'm working from home 3 days a week and am in the office the other 2. Also right up my alley? Definitely a YES!
Anywho...some of you may or may know that though I loved many things about my "old" job (which is still so weird for me to say!) the one thing I got burnt out on BIG time was the fact that I had to wear solid black suits, plain Jane shirts, plain jane jewelry, NO perfume, panty hose (yep-panty hose) and closed toe black heels.
If you're thinking to yourself "YUCK!"...you're right.
Don't get me wrong...I own enough black suits to stock the Limited, and sure, it was SO nice not having to figure out what I was going to wear each and every day but after a while, it got so mundane and I felt like my appearance just got more and more sloppy.
When I read through my new company's handbook and saw the dress code was "business casual" I instantly shrieked in excitement and then immediately turned to panic mode because I had no idea what the hay "business casual" even meant!
A few shopping trips and a tornado of a bedroom later...I was set for my very first day as a Social Media Analyst!

ReplyDeleteYAY for your first week! So exciting and so awesome you get to work from home!! I wish I could do the same! And I love your outfit. You look great, girl!

ReplyDeleteAhhhhhh so happy about your new job! you are a rock-stah!! :) you're going to do SO WELL i know it!!
ReplyDeleteand that outfit is SO cute and springy and working from home omfgg i am so jealous!!
cant wait to hear more about this!!
xoxoxo
I've heard of companies that require suits everyday but never all black everyday! No fun!! So glad you are excited about your new job and that you can work from home part of the time (although that would never work for me b/c I'm unmotivated unless I'm in the office)!! Good luck w/ your transition!! And good for you for having the cutest co-worker puppy!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I seriously don't know what I would do if I had to wear a suit every day! Your first "business casual" look is perfect! That's pretty much what I wear every day - some combo of dress pants + tank + cardigan (for the cold office). I'm actually wearing brown pants, cream tank, and coral cardi today, so this is too funny.
ReplyDeleteYahh for your new job! I feel the same way about my uniform at work. I just keep caring less and less about how it looks. You are so lucky that you can now dress up and work your style! Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you girl :) Have fun rockin' all those new clothes!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job! You will do great! Love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteAdorable outfit! And congrats on the new job! Rock it girl!
ReplyDeletecongrats and good luck on the new job!! I know you will do fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYay yay yay! So exciting. I also work in health care. My job sounds like your old one, so super conservative. I've definitely rockin the hose today. I bet it feels great and kinda weird to not wear a suit! Congratulations on the new job!
ReplyDeleteif your job is available in louisville, please, hook a sistah up! :) congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job and much more relaxed dress code. I guess I've been lucky that I've always only had to wear business casual and have only worn suits on interviews or when giving presentations. Buttttttt I would give anything to work from home 3 days a week! It amazes me that working from home isn't a given for most office workers as we can work from anywhere as long as we have a computer and an internet connection *sigh*
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job and hooray for business casual!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks SO much for answering all my YF questions-especially on your first day of your new job. AWESOME!
Congrats on the new job!! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteYou look great!! Way to rock the pink girl
ReplyDeleteYay, for no more black suits everyday! I mean honestly, now that you have a fur baby that's pretty impractical anyways ;)
ReplyDeleteMy job is business casual but I wear jeans Monday - Friday ;) My department kinds balks at the idea of rules (fortunately, for us, there are only 3 people in my department so no one!!) LOL
Good for you, it is so hard taking that leap. Hope you had a great first day (-: Love the outfit by the way
ReplyDeleteYay!!! What an awesome way to start your new job - no suits, pup can join you, 3 days at home and all on social media...
ReplyDeleteYIPPEE YAY x
You are just too fun. I need to send you out shopping for my school clothes. I feel very sloppy some weeks because we are allowed to wear jeans 3 days a week. I try to make it a little fun and wear a cute too but I et lazy some days and just out on my team shirt. I've got to step it up a notch for sure. Happy Tuesday friend.
ReplyDeleteCongrats again on the new job! So exciting! :) And yay for new work outfits!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!! I went from a stuffy suit job to a start up and although there are bumps, I think it would be hard to go back. Working from home and having more flexibility with your time (and wardrobe) is totally priceless! So happy for you!!

far from black suit! ;) Love the outfit! And so jealous of your work from home 3 days a week.. i only can 1 day! Good luck with it all though! Excited for you!
ReplyDeleteOMG I dont think I could do your old job!! Girl you would be considered the fanciest thing in the world in your casual clothes in my office! If I ever wear a dress, people ask why I am so fancy haha. I guess that's what I get working with all men.. but it's nice !
ReplyDeleteHooray for new cheery outfits. Your other work attire sounds drab. Sounds like a great opportunity!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new position! So funny, because I just did a complete career switch and can now dress "business casual" and can even wear sandals to work now! I feel so rebellious wearing business casual clothes, because Im not used to it!
ReplyDeleteyay for business casual and working from home!! I love having a pretty relaxed dress code at work. I love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is perfect! I sometimes feel just the opposite about my work wardrobe. While it's *mostly* business casual, sometimes it feels sloppy and I feel much more put together on days I dress up more! Either way, I have that same top from the Limited (the one you're actually wearing, not the peplum) ;)
ReplyDeleteYay for no more black suits!! Great first day outfit :) New career journeys are so emotional! I am going through the same thing with a new great position through my company. Congrats again girl and enjoy it!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this outfit combo!! (especially those SHOES!!!!) Please keep us updated on your outfit posts!! It helps me SO much w/ ideas!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I wish my toes were as pretty as yours! I tend to RUN from the shoes that show my toes :\
Hollllaaa girl you will LOVE this job! I can say this confidently b/c I have the same exact job in Austin! I work for a 10 person healthcare software and IT Management company - and I do all of the Social Media/Marketing/Sales&Procurement.... it is so rewarding and right up our alley! You will do amazing!!!!!! Congrats lovebug!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, pretty girl! You will be perfect for this new job! Do you wear comfies while you work at home? I knew some people actually get dressed when they work from home. Just curious.
ReplyDeleteVery cute outfit! Congrats on the new job. Working from home sounds amazing!
ReplyDeletewow idk how you could wear the black ensemble for so long! i didn't even own a black shirt until my first full time gig! all my clothes are bright.
