It's the hubs 28th birthday. (Happy birthday, babe!)
We're one day closer to Friday. (In case you didn't know.)
And
It's time for Saw it. Pinned it. Did it! (Raise your hand if you're linking up with us today!)
I should go ahead and preface this by saying today's post is 1000% birthday related in honor of Beau's birthday.
Mmmkay...now that that's out of the way...
We've been debating this whole "puppy" thing for quite some time now. Do we get a small dog I can carry around with me? (Also see: I'm obsessed with Katie's dog, Rocky). Do we get a big dog that we can take to the river/ranch with us? What about Beau's allergies? We're in a new house...what if it chews on the walls? Do we get a dog at all? Etc, etc...
While Beau pretty much pitched a fit when we left the breeder because I didn't put down a deposit right then and there, little did he know I would be I "ordering" him a puppy for his birthday. The only problem? The puppy wouldn't be here in time for me to give to him on his actual birthday (minor detail) so I needed to find a way STAT to "give" him this unborn puppy. (Weird. I know.)
Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (aka: African hunting dog, you know, because we're in Africa and all?)
Due date: Feb 28th-ish
So my creative juices began to flow. And then they stopped. And then they started flowing again (or maybe that was the wine?). And then they stopped. So finally I gave in and hit up good ol' Pinterest. Duh.
(New life motto: "When all else fails, go to Pinterest.")
Hallelujah. Dog bowl turned gift basket. Flippin' genius!
Here's what you'll need:
- Dog bowl (I got this one from Hob Lob for a STEAL! $30!)
- Cellophane
- Crinkle paper
- Dog goodies (toys, treats, collars, leashes, etc.)
Basically, rather than using a typical gift basket, you'll use the dog bowl as your "basket" so first you need to fill the bowl with crinkle paper to support all the toys so they don't fall to the inside.
Next, go out and purchase the most redneck dog toys you can find. (Hey, I thought a deer, rabbit and raccoon were appropriate?)
Arrange all the toys in the bowl so that they look nice.
Cut out a square of cellophane, place your bowl in the middle and bring the corners up to the top. Bunch the cellophane together about 1/3 the way down and tie off with a rubber band. (Sorry-it was too hard to take a picture of myself demonstrating this.)
Tie it off with some wired burlap ribbon, or any ribbon, for that matter...but lets be honest here, burlap just makes everything better...
Voila!

Voila!
Finally-blindfold your birthday boy, take a gazillion pics because you find it absolutely hysterical he let you blindfold him for 10+ minutes and unveil your gift.
I promise he won't be mad at you for your "pinterest" inspired gift...
Who would be?
How'd I do for a 28th birthday present?! ;)

You are such a fun wife! hehe Love this!! Happy thursday friend! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute present!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Will we have a follow up post featuring Beau's reaction?! I also think the blindfold is hilarious. If I did that to my husband his mind would AUTOMATICALLY be in the gutter.
ReplyDeleteMy ex-boyfriends dog was this breed and it was the sweetest dog! And, this is such a sweet idea. Was he totally surprised? Do we get a reaction post?
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I totally agree with your life motto "When all else fails, go to Pinterest." Second such a wonderful gift idea and suprising him with the puppy. Best wife ever :) And I can't wait to see your puppy.
ReplyDeleteA puppy is the BEST gift ever! And I think your "gift" basket is VERY creative even if you did get the idea from pinterest. Love it and can't wait to see pics of your pup.
ReplyDeleteSo so SO adorable!! Since you mentioned Beau's allergies, I'm curious. Are these dogs supposed to be good for people who sneeze at the sight of a dog?!? :) If so, I need the scoop!
ReplyDeleteApparently these dogs are great for people with allergies. We've searched high and low for a breed that's non-allergenic and come to find out, just about every dog can cause a reaction...some just much less than others. I talked to our breeder about his allergies and she said she had a girl buy a puppy who was extremely allergic to everything. SHe told the girl if she had any problems whatsoever once she got the puppy, she would take her back from her but apparently she hasn't had any problems at all! I'd definitely look into them. :) They're very big (anywhere from 75-150 lbs) but they're beautiful dogs and are supposed to be great family pets and protecters. :)
DeleteThat's awesome. And how weird that both of ours was birthday inspired. I'm giving mine to my friend tomorrow, so I will have to wait to post a picture of her getting it tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Love IT!
ReplyDeleteSo creative and so thoughtful. Another reason why Pinterest rocks
PS -loved your guest post at Ellie Love
Oh me geee!!!! What an adorable idea! :) I bet he was SO excited!!! Puppies are SO fun!! You will love having one! Happy Birthday to your hubby! :)
ReplyDeleteI linked up! :)
xo
Ahhh, this really is adorable though. Tell me it took him a second to catch on and he was totally confused by the gift at first? No, that just would have been me? Probably.
ReplyDeleteLOL YES! He took off the blindfold and goes "So you got me dog bowls for my birthday?" hahahahahaaha. Then he caught on and started looking through it and got excited. And then proceeded to ask me a gazillion questions "When do we get her? When did you buy her? Is this going to be expensive?" lol...typical Beau Howard fashion...
DeleteThis is the cutest gift I have ever seen! Enjoy your puppy while he's small...he's gonna get big fast!!!!
ReplyDeleteyou are THE BEST.
ReplyDeleteseriously!!!! i picture beau jumping up an down on the couch screaming and cheering!!! hahaha LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
happy birthday beau!!!

Love it!!! What a great idea! And yay for a puppy-- that would be my husband's ideal birthday present too. :)
ReplyDeleteso cute
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! You get wife of the year award!
ReplyDeleteI also LOLed at the pregnant dog. Love it.
HAHA isn't that such a funny pic of her?! It was the best one I took that day lol. She's such a calm mom, I hope our puppy gets her same demeanor!
DeleteSuch a cute idea! Happy birthday, BBFT!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm dying to know his reaction! We know that Beau was just over the moon about this!
ReplyDeleteLOL yes...he's really excited but he doesn't really "show" excitement like you would expect him to..nothing over the top. When I took the blindfold off he goes "You got me dog bowls?" lol. And then he started putting all of it together and was excited about the thought of a puppy. He wasn't expecting it for his birthday because we've been so torn as to whether or not to get one but yes, he's thrilled. He had a GAZILLION questions for me, though...just like a kid. ha!
DeleteEEEEEEK! A Baby Howard Puppy!!!!! So exciting! And the gift basket idea is so flippin' cute! Good work love.
ReplyDeleteAwww! Y'all are going to be such great puppy parents!!! Have fun & congrats on the (soon to be) new addition!
ReplyDeletePuppies are the best!! Such a great idea for the reveal! I just lost my kitty and have been thinking of getting a new friend for my Pomeranian Seamus, will have to look into this breed. Congrats on the new addition. Pets are family, dontcha know! :)

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! My hubby's birthday is coming up....ok, lie, it's not until June but I'm seriously already thinking about his gift, ha!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! I love that you "ordered" a puppy :) And that's a great idea to let him know what his present will be! So cute!
ReplyDeletewhat a clever idea girl...what would we do without Pinterest?? so please tell us (and show pictures) of his reaction...maybe he could be a "guest blogger" for the day and tell us from his point of view?? readers wanna know!
ReplyDeletehaha too cute! and yes, burlap makes everything better :)
ReplyDeleteYAY for your soon to be puppy!!!
ReplyDeleteDogs are the best!
Happy birthday to your hubs! What a great gift!
And I ADORE the bowl!
That is a awesome idea!!! Im soo stealing this!!! Planning on getting a puppy as soon as we are settled in our house!!!
ReplyDeleteAHHHHHH! I saw your picture on IG last night and was like wait, wait.. did they already get the puppy? Is this poor man just getting doggie toys ? But you bought her!!!! An early congrats, girl :)
ReplyDeletePS- I spy a super cutie dog collar. I guess you get few months before she has to start sporting her huntin collar!
Love this idea!! I got our first dog for my hubby (then bf) our senior year of high school. Hard to top that gift for sure! Can't wait to see her!!! or him!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great birthday present! Our dog growing up was a Rhodesian Ridgeback and she was the best dog ever. When my fiance and I went to the Humane Society to get a dog, we couldn't believe it when they had a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. She isn't as big as my first pup but they look like twins! My only advice with a ridgeback is to get them used to other dogs early. Our first pup wasn't around too many dogs (there weren't a lot of dog parks back then) for a few years and when she got older, she was slightly dog aggressive. Great with kids and adults though. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAdorable puppy and this shoud winyoubest wife ever! Good luck next year!! Lol can't wait to see the puppy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the most precious idea ever! Ross wants a dog so bad. He thinks we are getting one next year...we'll see. I bet Beau was like a kid on Christmas morning. I can't wait to meet the new pups!! And those toys...perfect....I mean every Ridgeback needs to start practicing the hunting skills early on! Already such a smart Mommy!
ReplyDeleteI am so doing this!!! I love this idea, and so would my husband!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!!! LOVE it! You will love having a puppy! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so great!
ReplyDeleteTotally too cute :)

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I sooo want to get a puppy and suprise the hubs just so I can make this gift basket!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out awesome, great job!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable puppy! We just got a Ridgeback/Boxer mix and are in love :) Question: you said you got the dog bowls at Hobby Lobby...was that for the stand as well? That's EXACTLY what we've been looking for!
ReplyDeleteI have a Rhodesian ridgeback/boxer mix also and she is the best!! She loves the beach and the river and loves to hunt. You made the right choice by getting a big dog. They are so much more fun to play with!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous idea! What was his reaction?
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea!! I'm totally with you: I'd love to have a dog I could carry around with me, but having a medium sized dog is perfect for us! I can't wait to see your little baby!!
