MJ.
Coach Mike.
Uncle Mike.
Mikey.
Of all the names he went by, there's only one that means the most to me.
Daddy.
January 18...it gets me every year.
This day, 5 years ago, he was taken from from this Earth and became the best angel a daddy's girl could ever ask for. While I miss that sweet, sweet smile and his huge heart of gold every single day, I know he's still with me today. Nothing in this world could ever replace that man except the loving memories we have of him. He was, and still is, so very loved by so very many.
Missing him more than ever...
Give all your daddies an extra big hug today, wouldya? For me?

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. - Birthday Edition
Well. Here we are.
Thursday, January 17, 2013.
It's the hubs 28th birthday. (Happy birthday, babe!)
We're one day closer to Friday. (In case you didn't know.)
And
It's time for Saw it. Pinned it. Did it! (Raise your hand if you're linking up with us today!)
I should go ahead and preface this by saying today's post is 1000% birthday related in honor of Beau's birthday.
Mmmkay...now that that's out of the way...
We've been debating this whole "puppy" thing for quite some time now. Do we get a small dog I can carry around with me? (Also see: I'm obsessed with Katie's dog, Rocky). Do we get a big dog that we can take to the river/ranch with us? What about Beau's allergies? We're in a new house...what if it chews on the walls? Do we get a dog at all? Etc, etc...
While Beau pretty much pitched a fit when we left the breeder because I didn't put down a deposit right then and there, little did he know I would be I "ordering" him a puppy for his birthday. The only problem? The puppy wouldn't be here in time for me to give to him on his actual birthday (minor detail) so I needed to find a way STAT to "give" him this unborn puppy. (Weird. I know.)

So my creative juices began to flow. And then they stopped. And then they started flowing again (or maybe that was the wine?). And then they stopped. So finally I gave in and hit up good ol' Pinterest. Duh.
(New life motto: "When all else fails, go to Pinterest.")
Basically, rather than using a typical gift basket, you'll use the dog bowl as your "basket" so first you need to fill the bowl with crinkle paper to support all the toys so they don't fall to the inside.
Finally-blindfold your birthday boy, take a gazillion pics because you find it absolutely hysterical he let you blindfold him for 10+ minutes and unveil your gift.

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (aka: African hunting dog, you know, because we're in Africa and all?)
Due date: Feb 28th-ish
So my creative juices began to flow. And then they stopped. And then they started flowing again (or maybe that was the wine?). And then they stopped. So finally I gave in and hit up good ol' Pinterest. Duh.

Hallelujah. Dog bowl turned gift basket. Flippin' genius!
Here's what you'll need:
- Dog bowl (I got this one from Hob Lob for a STEAL! $30!)
- Cellophane
- Crinkle paper
- Dog goodies (toys, treats, collars, leashes, etc.)
Basically, rather than using a typical gift basket, you'll use the dog bowl as your "basket" so first you need to fill the bowl with crinkle paper to support all the toys so they don't fall to the inside.
Next, go out and purchase the most redneck dog toys you can find. (Hey, I thought a deer, rabbit and raccoon were appropriate?)
Arrange all the toys in the bowl so that they look nice.
Cut out a square of cellophane, place your bowl in the middle and bring the corners up to the top. Bunch the cellophane together about 1/3 the way down and tie off with a rubber band. (Sorry-it was too hard to take a picture of myself demonstrating this.)
Tie it off with some wired burlap ribbon, or any ribbon, for that matter...but lets be honest here, burlap just makes everything better...
Voila!

I promise he won't be mad at you for your "pinterest" inspired gift...

This Guy.
...is turning 28! (tomorrow, technically)
...makes me so proud to be his wife.
...completely steals my heart again and again every single day.
...is the most handsome human being I've ever laid eyes on. (Obviously.)
...is, without a doubt, my better half.
...is the biggest kid you will ever meet.
...has the most infectious laugh and contagious smile.
...loves me to no end...even when I'm my typical snotty, sassy, bratty, PMS-y self.
...makes me excited about spending the rest of our lives together.
...makes my speakers go "boom, boom". ;) #lukebryan #love
...is getting a pretty friggin' sweet (& hopefully very unexpected) birthday prezzy tonight because I'm too anxious to wait until his real birthday to give it to him. (Check back in manana to see what it is! It should be no surprise his gift is Pinterest inspired and is what I'll be sharing for tomorrow's Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. project!)

Happy 28th birthday to my guy. 28 is going to be a wonderful year for you, but I just know the best is yet to come. :)
Love you, babe.

And because I know y'all are just as nosey as I am, I saved the best news for last. ;)
So now that the cat's out of the bag and we all know I'm going to be an aunt (ahem...the most fab aunt, I should say) for the first time to TRIPLETS...you should all know that there could only possibly be one more thing that's better than being an aunt to triplets alone...
BAM.
That. Just. Happened.
I know. I had to ask myself the same thing. "Is this real life? Three girls and I don't even have to go through the pregnancy to get them?"
Yes, Stephanie. This is real life.
And then I proceeded to syke myself out and believe God is saving all the baby boys for me. (Hey, a girl can dream, right?)
My adorable sister-in-law is blogging her entire journey and has a really cute gender reveal video up today. Go leave her some love, mmmkay?

Prepare to be Redneckified
Once upon a time,
A girl drank wine,
She had a husband and a dog and they had Texas on their mind.
There's no turning back.
Their bags will be packed.
And they'll be headin' to the South unless their plane is hi-jacked.
(Totally kidding about the hijacking part...it was all I could come up with.)
You read that right! Little Miss Katie and her fam will FINALLY be making their way to the Lonestar State in...wait for it...56 days!!!! We have been planning this trip for wellllll over a year now so excited, anxious, stoked...all understatements of the YEAR!
Katie...don't say we didn't warn you...
Hopefully this time we don't find Katie talking to herself, rapping to "Ghetto Cowboy" and hallucinating in the living room all by her lonesome. Yes. It got weird.
{Almost} reunited and it feeeeels so good!
Love this girl to itty bitty pieces...if you couldn't tell.
My heart is happy!
My heart is happy!
So, so happy. :)

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. - Hello from your new neighbors!
Oh happy dayyyyyyy!! So, yes, it's Thursday which usually only means one thing: the weekly Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. link up is here! (It also means I drank way to much wine concocting my project this week.)
Annnd it also means I have some VERY VERY VERY exciting news tomorrow!! (Come back, ya heard!?)
If you're new around these parts, you should know that every Thursday, Katie & I host a link up where you post your most recent Pinterest project. After pinning 1,534 pins and not doing a single one, I figured I needed to do something about it so...I did and this link up was born. Whether it's a hair style, an outfit inspiration, a DIY project or even a Pinterest fail (because we all know it's inevitable)...tell us about it and link up!
Those of you who aren't new to the linkup and have been keeping up with us week after week, stop rocking my socks off, would ya? Ok no. Don't. ;) I am thoroughly impressed with all of y'all's projects!!
So today's Pinterest project may or may not be the simplest thing ever. BUT. It still counts because, well, I saw it. I pinned it. I did it. ;)
And if you know me by now, you know darn good and well that I don't do any type of project that requires more than 10 ingredients and more than an hour to do.
Moving right along...
With recently moving into our new neighborhood, I have been racking my mind for something to give to our new neighbors as a way of meeting and introducing ourselves. I actually got my inspiration from two different pins and then made it my own.

What you'll need:
Mini plant (I chose succulents...duh)
Small tin bucket
Twine
Paper (to print labels)
Wine (*NOT optional)
Wine (*NOT optional)
Remove your plant from it's original container, careful to not rip apart it's root system.
Place it in your little bucket and add extra soil if needed.
(AKA: go dig some out of your neighbors yard.)
"Hey neighbor! Nice to meetcha! Here's yer plant! Oh-and I borrowed some of your soil for YOUR gift. Hope ya don't mind?!"
Ha.
Download these FREE printables and use Picmonkey to add your name to them.(Or if you prefer to not use Picmonkey, you could always just handwrite your names, too.) Print out each label and glue it to a piece of thicker cardstock. (I chose a cardboard color.)
Punch two holes along the top of the label, wrap your twine around the top of the bucket and then lace it through the two holes. Tie in a bow.
BAM.
Masterpiece!
Total cost: <$5
Total prep time: 15 minutes (to edit and cut out labels and twine)
Total project time: 5 minutes each
Better than cookies.
Better than candy.
Not as degrading as a $3 bottle of wine. (Yes...that was my original idea.)

I'm so excited to go hand these out to our new neighbors and meet them!! I hear the people a few doors down are GM's at the local 24 Hour Fitness. Hells. Yes. Two plants for them...

Maybe making out for a few minutes would help us figure things out.
Well. If that title doesn't get your attention I'm not sure what will. Trust me, it will all make sense towards the end of this post.
So obviously, with a new house comes very new and very ( I mean verrrrry) bare walls. While I'm really in no hurry to start putting holes in my walls just yet, I must admit I am currently in the market to find the most perfect piece to go above our bed.
(Note to self: cut tag off comforter...)
As any smart social medialite (yep. I just made that word up.) would do, I pull up good ol' Pinterest and voila! I find the most amazing ideas for things to go above our bed. (PS: find me @MrsStephHoward) How on earth would we function without Pinterest? Foreals. We wouldn't know what to cook, how to decorate, what a sock bun is, etc...Ok no-I don't even want to think about that.
Anywho, now I just need to find a way to get my hands on some of these pieces!
Love the "Me&You" here and the wooden shelf! So simple & sweet!
(And that fence board headboard..swoon!)
My love for window panes will never stray me...I'm not sure about that whole floral thing in the middle but the window pane itself is simply amazing.
This.
All of it.
Now.
Empty rustic frame...swooooon!
Yep...yet another fab window pane.
XOXO + tiny spring flowers...adorbs
And because if decorating were up to my husband,
I'm about 99.9% sure this is what he would insist go above the bed:

Men... (although that IS pretty genius...)
In other news, who's linking up with Katie & I for Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. tomorrow?! I'm stoked to get back on track with my Pinterest projects!! Are you?! This week's project consists of (surprise, surprise!) succulents, cactus and twine. Shocker, I know. ;)
Now go out there and find something to link up with...or else...

You Are What You Eat
Another weekend ends. Another week begins. Mine, well, consisted of moving the in-laws into their new beautiful home, meeting puppy parents (more on that later), football (can I get a HELL YA to another Texans win?!), friends, food and champagne. Oooh how I am mildly obsessed weekends!
Oh-and because this is a record-breaking event, you should all
know that THIS happened twice this weekend...
Yes. That's a freshly made bed. Iono what's gotten into me...
Anyway-enough about me, more about, well...me.
So here lately, I've gotten a ton of questions asking about my diet so I figured I should probably go ahead and answer those requests. (Sorry y'all. This post is LONG overdue!)
For starters, I whole heartedly believe that you are what you eat. If you wanna eat a Big Mac, go for it. But you need to understand that you are probably going to feel just like that burger afterwards; round, plump and full of junk. If you want to eat asparagus, go you. You're going to become a lean machine. And if you want to eat broccoli, you're going to have big hair and/or resemble that of a tree. (Kidding. But cruciferous veggies, like broccoli, also make you lean.)
To jump right in, 90% of the time I follow a yeast-free diet. Yeast-free basically means I don't consume any sugar or anything that converts to sugar, like simple carbohydrates (white potatoes, white bread, white rice, etc.) If I'm eating a carb (other than fruit), it's going to be brown rice or sweet potatoes. The end. Yeast-free also means no dairy (milk, butter, yogurt, Greek yogurt, cheese, etc.), no sugar (except for stevia and sugar alcohols like xylitol), no yeast (bread, flours, etc), and no heavily fermented alcoholic drinks. Wine and champagne are my cheats but my go-to drink is vodka/soda with a lime. (Sidenote: clear liquors are the least sugary.) When you're eating so low-carb, high-protein, counting calories is not necessary. (I've actually never been a calorie counter...)
The other 10% of the time I cheat. It's highly impossible to live like this every single day of your life. Well, I mean you could if you never wanted to be social again and live in a bubble but that's just not my cup of tea. When I say "cheat", I don't mean I go out and stuff my face with nachos and cheese fries. If I'm out at dinner and bread is on the table, I'll eat small piece. If Beau gets dessert, I'll steal a bite. Moderation is absolutely key.
Before (145 lbs) & After (124 lbs)
Why do I eat the way I do?
A) I feel great and I'm never bloated (unless I cheat big time or drink beer). My clothes always fit me well and I never have to "worry" about bikini season.
B) I eat for my skin. I have very oily, acne-prone skin and I've quickly discovered that a sugar-free, dairy-free diet is the best thing I can do for it. I've tried birth control, antibiotics, expensive skin care lines and ridiculous make-up with no prevail. Without a doubt, 99% of my skin issues can be contributed to what I'm eating (or drinking) and though it's nowhere close to perfect, it's improved tremendously since I figured this out.
C) I preach health and wellness on a daily basis. (Also read: I'm a health blogger by day). What kind of hypocrite would I be if I sat there and told people how to eat and live a healthy lifestyle if I
didn't follow suit?!
I rest my case.
I should also probably go ahead and say, in my humble opinion, skinny does not equal healthy. There's a difference. You can be lean, and you can be thin. I prefer to be lean & muscular.
My diet isn't a "diet". It's a lifestyle. Yo-yo dieting is one of the absolute worst things you can do for your body. (Also see: Oprah Winfrey should not be your weight loss idol.) Exercise is absolutely key. Make it a part of your daily routine ASAP, if it's not already. (20% cardio and 80% strength training has seemed to be the best combination for me.)
And to answer 99% of the questions I've gotten recently, here's what I eat on a weekly basis:
Breakfast
- Larabars w/ fruit
- Breakfast Cookie
- Protein Shake
- Lean Turkey Sausage
- PaleoBar w/ fruit
- Yeast-Free Pumpkin Bread
- Scrambled eggs w/ bacon (sometimes turkey, sometimes regular)
- 99.9% of the time lunch consists of leftovers from dinner the night before
- Amy's Black Bean Chili (if I'm in a bind)
- Salad
- Tuna salad made with vegannaise (not mayonnaise)
- Protein (lean turkey, chicken, venison, shrimp, fish)
- Veggies (brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, zucchini, squash)
- Beans (Black only)
- Yeast-free chili
- Spaghetti squash (served as spaghetti)
- Chicken Tortilla Soup
- Taco Wraps
- Energy Balls
- No-bake chocolate cake
- Almonds or cashews
- Terra Chips/hummus
- Apples/sugar-free all-natural peanut butter
- Fruit (apples, strawberries, blueberries, grapefruits & bananas)
Last night's dinner: cedar plank salmon, sautéed brussel sprouts, steamed cauliflower & baked sweet potatoes
Is it cheap? No.
Is it easy? No.
Do I eat a LOT of the same foods all the time? Yes.
Is it worth it? You bet your sweet tush it is.
Some count "points". Some count calories. Some prefer to just NOT eat. (I do not advise that last one.) Yeast-free is what works for me, is what has worked for me for over 3 years now and it's important for you figure out what works best for you!
(*Shameless plug but starting January 14th, I'll be hosting my company's 3rd annual "Yeast-Free with Me" challenge. It's basically 30 days of motivational emails including tips, tricks, grocery lists, recipes, etc., put on by lil' ol' me! If you'd like to join, by ALL means, sign up here! Whether you want to follow the diet to lose a few ell bees (lb's) or just get a little help reaching your health goals, you really have nothing to lose!)
So there. I think I covered just about everything I've been asked recently but if you still have those burning questions in the back of your mind, shoot me an email or leave a comment! Also, I have an entire page devoted to healthy living so feel free to check it out if you're still wondering if this is the right thing for you!
Cheers to a happy, healthy 2013!

So...I've Been Hiding Something From You
I'm not gonna beat around the bush today because, well, I've been waiting to share this news for as long as Taylor Swift has been singing about her lame ex-boyfriends. (Sorry Taylor. But it's true.) Ok so maybe that's me being a little dramatic but I've felt like I've been holding this in for-ev-errr. Alas, I have been given the go-ahead to shout it from the rooftops so shout it from the rooftops I shall do...
aaaand GO.
I'm gonna be an AUNT!!
And you know what's better than being just a regular ol' aunt?
Being and aunt TIMES THREE!
'Tis true mah good friends...my beautiful sister-in-law (Beau's sis) is with child...
errrr-THREE child(s)!!!!
TRIPLETS, y'all!
You know what that means?!
Three times the poopy diapers.
Three times the midnight feedings.
Three times the sleepless nights.
Three times the cries and quivering lips.
But then again...it's three times the tiny onesies.
Three times the itty bitty toes.
Three times the everlasting love.
Three times the heartfelt joy for Julie and her husby, Brian! (And me, of course!)
Talk about the best Christmas present...EVER...and they're not even mine!
(Even better, right?!)
You know what this also means?! Beau and I are totally off the hook for a few years, if ya know what I mean!! Hell yes.
You know what this also means?! Beau and I are totally off the hook for a few years, if ya know what I mean!! Hell yes.
While Julie's little body is about to go through a lot over these next 5ish months or so, the babies are doing just fine so far and other than all-day-sickness (poor thing!), our little momma is doing well, too!
Meet the entourage:
Makes my heart go pittah pattah!
The little bambinos are 12 weeks old and are actually a little bit ahead of schedule! {Grow babies GROW!!} Julie has heard strong heartbeats from all 3 and should find out in the next couple of weeks how many of these nuggets are boys and how many are girls!! (Fingers crossed for a mixture of both!) They are so loved already!!
Ahhh! Let the triplet spoiling begin!
So there.
No more secrets.
Please keep Julie & Brian in your thoughts and prayers as they endure many new changes over the next few months. Oh! And if you would, head on over to her blog and leave her some love, would ya?! (Yep! She's been sucked into this blogging world, too!) I know it will be much appreciated it!
This is going to be so. much. fun.
I can already tell!
I can already tell!

Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. - Christmas Card Keeper
WHEW!
What. A. Weekend, y'all! Without recapping every single move I made (#boring), let's just say mine lasted Friday - Wednesday and to be perfectly honest, it was fan-freaking-tastic and consisted of not a single hangover. Hallelujah!
More 5 day weekends?
Less hangovers?
Yes, please!
This goes without saying I hope everyone had a happy, safe and hangover-free New Year's weekend! Cheers to a brand spankin' new year!
Less hangovers?
Yes, please!
This goes without saying I hope everyone had a happy, safe and hangover-free New Year's weekend! Cheers to a brand spankin' new year!
Anywho-while my partner-in-crime is out somewhere being a snow bunny (that jerk!), I promise I'll try to be today's hostess with the mostess! (However, I'll let you be the judge of that.) For those of you who are new or are visiting from Katie's blog, welcome! So glad to have you today for the very first Saw it. Pinned it. Did it. link up of 2013!! (Is it just me or does writing/typing a new year always take a while to get the hang of? No. Mmmmkay good.)
Moving right along...
So one of my absolute FAVORITE things about Christmas is giving and receiving Christmas cards. (Preferably the receiving part, but maybe that's just because I'm selfish.) However, once Christmas is over and all the decor starts to come down, I never know what to do with them and believe you me I'm not throwing those suckers away!
Oh. Hey there new kitchen!
(Full home tour coming soon....errrr-eventually!)

Enter: the pin that changed it all...

BAM. (Obviously you can use this idea for other cards, like weddings, but Christmas cards were more timely so I went with it.)
BAM. (Obviously you can use this idea for other cards, like weddings, but Christmas cards were more timely so I went with it.)
And here's mine:
Here's what you'll need:
A good ol' stack of Christmas cards (preferably the kind that come with adorable babies on the front)
Hole puncher
Twine (or ribbon)
Scissors
Two pieces of cardboard (cut out the same size as your biggest card)
Paint/paintbrush
Mod Podge
Punch holes in your stack of cards and lace a piece of twine through them. I did two holes along the top/sides of each card but I've seen it where you can do one hole in the top left corner. Either way, make sure all your holes are lined up or it won't work out right!
Next, use your paint to coat one side of each piece of cardboard. (This will be your front and back covers so make sure you go all out and date it so you know which year your book is from.) I wanted mine to look a little "unfinished" so I just used a cream coat of paint, avoiding the sides. I used some old red cardstock I had lying around and cut out the words that were on our Christmas card from this year. For the back, I used a heart stamp and wrote in the date with a red sharpie.
Once you've spruced up your cardboard pieces, coat them in mod podge. I did one coat vertical, let it dry, and then applied a second coat going horizontally.
After it dries, place them on the front and back of your stack of hole-punched cards, lace the twine through the holes and tie it off with a pretty little bow!
Aaaand if you're anything like me, you'll keep it out for a few weeks before you pack it up so you can still try to pretend it's the holidays. (When you DO pack it up, make sure you pack it with the rest of your Christmas decor so you remember to bust it out the following year! Makes for a great coffee table book and is so fun to see how everyone changes in just one year!)
How do you savor your Christmas cards each year?! Link up with us and let us know!
