It reads something along the lines of "You take one too many photos and are forbidden to take another one until you delete one of the 9,000+ photos you're currently storing on a device the size of your hand."
Guilty as charged.
Yes. Screen of death.
So naturally I start going through the old iPhone searching for pics to delete...one, by one, by one, by one...only to find that I have multiples of the exact same pictures over, and over, and over again and I stop to think...there can only be one culprit.
INSTAGRAM.
I mean, do I smile? Do I not? Zoom in? Zoom out? What about this angle? Or that filter? Does it need to be lightened? Should I airbrush my face? What about my hair? How's my hair?
(Maybe you should be the judge? Shameless plug: follow me at @MrsStephHoward)
Today you're in for a REAL treat because I'm taking you on a behind the scenes tour of what goes into a single Instagram post. Oh yea...I'm going there. Granted-I am far from having the best Instagram pics ever but lets just say posting just ONE image is far from simple.
I mean, 6 different photos of me wearing a plain white top & jeans. SIX? And then the filter I pick for the final post makes me look as pale as Taylor Swift. At least my hair looks lighter...
FOUR photos of my Jesus Juice because who the heck doesn't need four pictures of the green stuff? (And yes, I really named it "Jesus Juice".)
SIX shots of Beau & I at our Valentine's dinner...Arm down? Hand on hip? Gentle kiss on the cheek? Aw hell. They're all too dark. Start over. Two more shots andddd done. Lighten her up and she's good to go!
And per usual...I saved the best for last.
NINE different pics of me and my camera. NINE, people. And now that I think about it, what a dumb picture to post anyways!
Annnd finally...the good ol' front seat selfie. Smile? No smile? Head back? Head forward? Blow a kiss? Aw screw it. Pick another pasty filter to make myself look comparable to Casper. Aaand share!
Perhaps I'm a lunatic. Perhaps I'm just like every other Instagrammer out there (please agree with the latter) but either way, I've got a real problem on my hands folks. There's no telling what else I could be doing with my time when I'm not snapping and editing a gazillion iPhone photos...
(For the prettiest...and I mean prettiest Instagram pics you ever did see, you may or may not want to follow Riahnnon @heygorgevents. Perfect, I tell ya! I don't even know her but she's my Instagram idol. Yes. I just said that.).
And today's bonus: my favorite photo editing apps!
Aviary: I mainly use this one for the blemish affect. Yes-my skin is far from perfect and thanks to Aviary, I can just airbrush myself to flawless skin. A girl can dream, right?!
Gorilla Cam: Download this NOW for the simple fact that it has a self-timer! Yes...a self-timer so when you want a picture of you and there's no one around to take it, you can. Problem...solved!
Pic Frame: Easy app that allows you to make collages with all your iPhone photos. All the images you see above were made through this app. :)
And there we have it! You can thank me by leaving a comment with YOUR favorite photo editing app mmmkay?!
This is too funny. I'm totally guilty of it too.
ReplyDeleteI am laughing so hard right now because it is SO good to know I am not the only one that does this craziness! :) I seriously take like 10 pictures of the same thing or myself in a slightly different pose, same goes with food pics. This post is hilarious lady!!! I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThis post cracks me up because I think my phone is filled with useless pictures of attempted photos lol You're hilarious Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I laughed so hard at these pictures because my phone looks the same. Shameless self portraits that all look the same and about 6,000 of my baby doing the same thing in each picture. But sometimes that 7th picture makes me look just slightly skinnier than the others.. Worth it! Lol
ReplyDeleteI also am a huge fan of Afterglow, but there are WAAAAYY too many filters to pick from. It takes me at least 45 minutes to pick one, every time. And it doesn't stop there. The husband has to also vote on his favorite filter. Now who's the looney!?
ReplyDeleteI seriously thought about this yesterday when the same message (daunting I might add) appeared! Why do I need #ootd pictures from 6 months ago? Time to let go, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm SO glad to know it's not just me that does this.
ReplyDeleteBut you are a brave woman for showing them all. LOL :)
This is the best - only because that's exactly what I thought the other night when I went to delete my old pictures. Instagram has turned us nutty!!!
ReplyDeletewe're all culprits. thankfully im slightly crazy about going through my photos and deleting old ones.
ReplyDeleteand the pictures of you and your camera got me giggling... because apparently i have the mind of a 13 year old boy.
cheers!
Hilarious! :) I'm totally guilty of this. Which reminds me... I need to go delete some pictures! HAHA
ReplyDeleteI also totally just downloaded those apps. Thanks friend!
LOL I am definitely the same as you...and I am pretty sure all instagrammers are too. I would be embarrassed if someone got a hold of my phone to see how I sometimes have 10 of the same picture. No wonder my phone dies so fast throughout the day haha. and LOVEEEE afterglow!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. DUCK DYNASTY TONIGHT WOOHOOO!!
You know the way to my heart sister...two words...(okay three): DUCK FREAKING DYNASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteHahhaah I'm the EXACT same way...but I'm ridiculous about deleting my duplicates. Like I won't even keep the original...only the final, filtered, instagram picture.
ReplyDeleteI do exact the same thing...haha. My phone is filled with so many repeat pictures of my girls, but I can't bring myself to delete them out of fear that I'll need that one picture someday. It's a problem. Like I need to have 10 different pictures of the same photo. And then once you decide to Instagram the chosen pic, it creates ANOTHER copy of the same photo, but now with the Instagram filter...haha. AHHH! My favorite photo editing app is Picfx.
ReplyDelete6 pictures of each? you ARE a freak. I think I do 2. Maybe. MY LORD!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's because you're always pretty and you know about all this posing BS. I'm a lost cause...you know this.
DeleteI love how honest you are in this post...I too am guilty of this!! Although I do try and go through my pictures every month or so and edit it down. And thanks for sharing your favorite apps. I sometimes see cool pics on Instagram and am like...how did they do that affect?!? I am always looking for fun photo apps :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of guilty of this too. Not the Instagram part, but of keeping too many photos on my phone, and getting the screen of death. Or WORSE, when I need to run an update, and it won't let me! I have the shutterfly app on my phone, and I upload photos to that routinely. Then I don't get that sick feeling when I have to delete photos off my phone!
ReplyDeleteI have doubles and triples of photos too! i blame it on photo streaming and then being in an album! PS I have a Giveaway happening, I hope you’ll stop by to enter. Knock Your Socks Off Giveaway
ReplyDeleteLove this!! I'm glad I'm not alone. It's worse... I do this with my dogs. I take 5+ pictures until they give me a good face. haha
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA we all do this! I am SO guilty of it! I have to like the picture if I'm actually going to post it, duh! My husband is so used to taking multiple pictures at this point. If you created that pic on your phone, how did you get it on your comp and then into your post? Using iCloud to your comp? Or do you email yourself? I always email them to myself (since iCloud never seems to work for me), but it takes forever to re-save all the pics on my comp before I post them.
ReplyDeleteLOL YES! Beau is SO used to taking multiple pics these days! And yes, I create the collages on my phone and then just email them to myself. :) I don't know about all this "cloud" biznass!
DeleteUm this is hilarious because I just got my iPhone update and it wouldn't download because I don't have enough memory. So AS I TYPE this my computer is backing up the images so I can update my dang phone.. .
ReplyDeleteLOL! This is hilarious! I don't have that many pictures buuuut, it is so hard to let go of the ones I have on my phone! (Even if they are saved onto the computer too!) However, I'm going to have to check out the Gorilla app! We are ALWAYS in need of a timer on the phone!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it. I will DIE when my phone tells me to delete pictures. I hate deleting pictures because I need all of them! Even the bad ones! Thanks for the app recommendations. I was looking for a good collage app! :)
ReplyDeleteJill
Classy with a Kick
VSCO Cam, free & has really nice simple filters!
ReplyDeleteI was trying to find the blogs who hosted 'Saw it. Pinned it. Did it.' Here you are. New follower! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! Yep! Here I am!! :) Will you be joining us tomorrow!?!
Deleteyou should download copy.com! its a cloud based storage app- i had the SAME thing happen the other day and i was like there is no way in hell im deleting anything off my phone! you can upload all your photos in folders on computers, iPads, iPhones, etc and have access to them without taking up space on your phone! #shamelesshusbandscompanyplug
ReplyDeleteHahaha I have some of the same kind of pictures on my phone! Really, how many #ootd pics do I really need? . I already had pic frame (love) and downloaded all the other apps you suggested. I've been messing around with them all morning...when I should be working? ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day girly!
This is SO funny! I have a post in my drafts called Anatomy of a Selfie but yours is way better! I love AfterGlow and Diptic (for collages).. I'll have to try GorillaCam next :)
ReplyDeleteHaha oh my goodness I'm the exact same way. Especially when it comes to self portraits for outfits or whatevs. But the worst thing is my husband and I use the same iTunes account for our phones and so he gets every single picture I take. It's a little embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the app suggestions!
I just lol'ed and my coworkers are looking at me so funny! I can totally relate. The best part about this whole post was the casper comment. I'm the same way! Great idea, lets apply the filter that makes me white than I am (which I never thought was possible) lol
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You are SOO not alone!! I, every once in a while, that I will go through and delete all of those extra ones!!
ReplyDeleteI don't delete my pictures, I just transfer them on to my computer then delete. I do this once I reach 200 or so. I'm afraid my phone will get lost and all my pics will be gone.
ReplyDeleteahhh I got that same screen of death a few days ago :( so sad.
ReplyDelete(and don't worry, you're not alone on the IG thing. practice makes perfect.)
omg....did you get in my brain and write this post?! because i do the same thing. embarrassing? yes! but it is honesty at its finest. the funny thing is i take so many sometimes and don't post a single one. i'm a weirdo about those selfies. love your honesty hun. of course i also downloaded those apps you mentioned. my hubby may kill you for telling me about these. our lil secret :-)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! This cracked me up the whole time. This is so me, but girl, I swear I have more "out takes" than you. Remind me....we are we doing this? I mean really? Oh, yeah, I forgot, we are "bloggers".
ReplyDeleteGuilty as charged, I do the exact same thing! haha Thanks for sharing the photo apps, downloading them now!
ReplyDeletei love afterglow! and i constantly have the same issue with my iphone, i take WAY too many photos
ReplyDeletelol i am DEFINITELY guilty of this!!
ReplyDeleteUmmm I will be downloading these apps pronto. Also, I'm curious how big your phone is? I don't have nearly that many pictures on mine but lately, after taking a pic, it's like my phone is in slow-motion about me being able to find it in the "Photos" app or Insty. I thought maybe I had too many on there but clearly that is not the case :P
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I missed this the first time around, but I'm thankful Erica linked to it today!! This is TOTALLY what goes on behind the scenes of my Instagram account :)
