Just like the average human being, Christmas gets me ten shades of excited every single year. The buying of the gifts, the food, the music, the decorations, the aura...all of it! I feel like the older I get, the more excited I get because being an adult at Christmas is so much more fun than being a kid. I mean, being able booze is better than opening toys, right?
I rest my case.
This time last year, our townhome was in boxes and we were in the process of moving so our Christmas decor was a little sparse. And by sparse I mean, we closed on December 21 and we sported our 5 foot tall Christmas tree from our college days. No lie...I was taller than the tree.
See what I mean?
But this year...THIS YEAR...we vamped it up a notch, starting with our tree. Beau insisted we dump the ol' five footer (RIP) and go with a nine-foot beast so like any wife would do, I set out for the perfect nine foot Christmas tree. What baby wants, baby gets. ;)
Like any sane husband would do, when we got ready to put it up, he popped a bottle of champs, turned on some country Christmas music and we lit that baby up with lights and trimmed her in nothing less than burlap and twine.
Oakie, of course, was nothing short of a perfect angel. Never getting into anything, never attempting to knaw on a branch, never knocking off and shattering a few ornaments. She would nevvvver do anything like that...
Can't you see her halo?
2 bottles of champagne, 2 trips to Hobby Lobby and 1 trip to World Market later, she was stuffed with ornaments, filled with burlap poinsettias, draped with strands of thick tan burlap, and topped with a bright red bow. I slapped on a ruffled burlap skirt and looked at her with love in my eyes! I just can't get enough! Our first real, grown up Christmas tree!!
We also started a new tradition by making an ornament from the champagne cork, which officially marks off #20 on my 30 Before 30 list! Decorating trees and knocking stuff off my list...multi-tasking at it's finest, people.
While these precious little snow/glitter covered balls are no longer hanging this low on the tree thanks to a rather curious Ridgeback who goes by the name of "Oakley", they did make for a cool picture if I must say so myself!
More Christmas decor coming soon...you know...when I remember to actually take the pictures.
It's DECEMBER 11th! Please tell me your Christmas tree is up by now!
LOVE your tree! Although, with a rather curious boxer that lives in my house, I was curious to see how long those ornaments at the bottom would last. I'm glad to hear that we're not the only ones with a sparsely decorated bottom of the tree!
ReplyDeleteLove the tree, the burlap and the red ornaments really make it pop!
ReplyDeleteI love the tree!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks to our puppy, I've already gotten to see 2 presents that Todd had wrapped for me. I can only imagine what else she'll do before Christmas!
ReplyDeleteOMG the burlap.. i die! So cute.. my tree has been up since the day after Christmas - thats my tradition and I love it :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new tradition idea - Your tree is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove the cork idea! Your tree looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMeet @ the Barre
Yall did a great job!! Looks sooo pretty :) Absolutely love the cork idea!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you say that about the ornaments being that low, because as soon as I saw the picture of the tree fully decorated, all I could think of is "she's gonna have to move those ornaments on the bottom, or the dog will get them!" ha ha ha. Gorgeous tree!
ReplyDeleteYou're tree looks so pretty! I loveeee Christmas time!

Such a pretty tree! My holiday village is still not out yet...
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap in the tree! I so want to do that, was it hard to use as a decoration?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree!!! I love the burlap!!!! I did a bow on my tree this year too!!!
ReplyDeleteYour tree is gorgeous! Your husband suggested a taller tree? I just died! Love it! BTW, love the frame around the mount! :) Too much love in this post I tell ya!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree!! This is our first Christmas being married so we are a little sparse on the decorations too. Next year I think will be much better and a lot prettier! But it's so fun still!
ReplyDeleteSure is a mighty fine tree. Pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteYour tree looks gorgeous! It fits perfectly in that spot and I love how you decorated it! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the tree! Its so darn cute :)
ReplyDeleteThe animal mounted behind it with the Santa hat. Frickin' priceless.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! That tree is GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful :)
ReplyDeleteAnd champs is always a good idea!
Beautiful tree! We have the same problem with our dog eating the ornaments every year. I think she thinks that they are balls for her to play catch with.
ReplyDeleteLove your tree! We stuck with our little 6 footer this year that is not as full as I would like it to be but with this newlywed budget I didn't want to blow money on a tree that could be used other wise on gifts. I love the burlap too! I have been trying to figure out what we are going to do for a topper because we don't have one and I am thinking about making a burlap bow to go on ours. Everything looks beautiful and what a wonderful tradition with the cork!
ReplyDeleteFabulous sis! Looks amazing! You know I give it two thumbs up :-)
ReplyDeleteLove y'alls tree! Sadly, ours is STILL not up!! :( I refuse to put it up without Matt & when the stupid ice storm came through last weekend, He had to go to work then it was off to Vegas for us! So, no tree still... maybe tonight or tomorrow!? LOL! Your tree is beautiful though!! Love it!
